Raquel (mahayhay) | 212 comments I'm behind on another buddy read so I'll probably be starting this one a few days late.

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments Don't worry I am also behind. Will be reading a little today as my cr is not appropriate to read at work/with my students but won't be properly starting this until the 8th

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments Okay I have started it today. Currently 67 pages in:

(view spoiler)

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments So far this feels very tame for a quest journey. Like not much actual peril. However I am loving the characters and them learning about themselves, their families, and their powers (or re-learning in Percy's case)

Raquel (mahayhay) | 212 comments Now that I'm finally caught up on my other buddy reads I'll be starting this later today! Knowing Nico's in this one has me eager to dive in!

Sorry it's taken me so long to get started. I started the month with a book I could not get into, but I didn't want to DNF it because I wanted to count it for the challenge so I just had to slowly struggle through 😓 Hopefully this one will be better though. I need something I can really get into.

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments Ah struggling through things is no fun! but I get why. I've got about 150 ish pages left but I'll keep an eye on my notifications as I'm happy to chat about it as you get through it/finish it 😀

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments I've just finished it so ready to talk when you are :)

Raquel (mahayhay) | 212 comments I just got 90 pages in. I agree that I wish Nico would say something, I've never liked when characters who are friends keep things from each other simply because "bigger things are at play".

I'm actually liking Hazel more than I liked Piper and I'm intrigued by her backstory. I'm eager to start learning more about Frank too because so far he hasn't been focused on much.

I'm enjoying getting to know about this Roman camp! I'm surprised that the differences between the two camps are actually pretty big.

Raquel (mahayhay) | 212 comments Yeah, I see what you mean when you say that the quest seemed pretty tame. I have a hundred pages to go, they just got to Alaska and got away from the gryphons, but when I look back it feels like they were never in a ton of peril until they got to Frank's house.

So far I like this trio more than the last book's trio. Frank's probably my least favorite but I still like him. I can't wait to see him finally use his powers!

I'm super curious about what Gaea's plans for Percy are. And also what that prophecy meant about him drowning.

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments Thats exactly how I felt - not much peril until Frank's house.

I connected with the other trio quicker but this one intrigues me more - powers/past life.

prophecy is super interesting and the romans are so into this one and have been for ages.

Do you want to add a buddy read for the 3rd one sometime next month perhaps?

Raquel (mahayhay) | 212 comments I got it finished today but I think I'm gonna wait to write a review until tomorrow. While I did like this book slightly more than the first one I think both of them had their strengths. For me I liked the characters more in this one but the plot felt less intense whereas for the first one I was more invested in the plot than the characters.

The ending of this one just went by too fast for me. It's hard for me to believe how easy it was for them to defeat two giants. They were both handled so quickly that they ended up feeling like some of the weakest enemies Percy has ever faced when they should've been some of the strongest. What did you think about those fights?

Other than that the ending has me excited for the next book. I want to know how the Romans are gonna react to the Greeks, how they're gonna save Nico, and what this Mark of Athena is all about. Not sure how I feel about Leo looking like Hazel's old flame though. I'm guessing he's either related to him or his reincarnation. Either way, I'm not a fan of love triangles so I hope it doesn't go in that direction.

I'm up to buddy read the next one too but I don't think I can pull it off next month. Do you want to aim for August instead? If you don't want to wait I can probably catch up in August and buddy read the 4th one with you instead, whichever works 😊

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments Completely agree with you they felt like some of his weakest enemies and the battle was over way too quick considering how long the book is.

Him looking like Hazel's old friend/love is really weird and I'm not sure what that's going to be like but I really hope they don't make it weird.

The reaction to the Greeks is going to be interesting and I think theyve set that up well. And yes 'the mark of athena' is very ominous and not giving much away in terms of what it might be.

I'm not sure what my month is looking like for this month as I'm in a little slump so I'll let you know when we get to the end of July if i've read it or not but I think I'll most likely end up waiting for you :)

Raquel (mahayhay) | 212 comments I get that, I've been in a kind of reading slump too so I'll wait to hear from you!

I saw that last month you were interested in reading Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me. If you haven't read it yet I can probably fit that in during a weekend in July if you wanted since it's a pretty quick read. Let me know!
