Looks like a biography to me. Enjoy.
Can you please verify The Duchess Deal for Humor MPG? It's the last one on the list and I'm afraid it may fall off!
For Option 2, I am looking at the group biographyThe Mutual Admiration Society: How Dorothy L. Sayers and her Oxford Circle Remade the World for Women. It is definitely biography but more than one person. Is that ok?
so a Shirley Jackson book from option 1 and an autobiography from Option 2. Biography i would assume means I can use an autobiography, if so I can read Linda Bellinghams other biography which is in my TBR list. I am only commenting to state intention and ensure I got the task correct. Thanks looking forward to my reading.
Would Dare Not Linger: The Presidential Years work for Option 2? Because while Mandela is classified as an author, it's mentioned in the bio that it was unfinished, and the MPG is Biography.
Maureen wrote: "so a Shirley Jackson book from option 1 and an autobiography from Option 2. Biography i would assume means I can use an autobiography, if so I can read Linda Bellinghams other biography which is in..."Task says no autobiography for option 2
Memoirs, autobiographies, or other works about an author's own life do not work.

Ah i didnt read that correctly. Thank you for pointing it out. Which means i can read Lynda's husband biography of her life. Although i might have to look at the blurb about that particular book.
Does Option 2 refer to a biography of only one person or can it be about several people?I have two possibilities for this option if it is more than one. -
Founding Mothers and
The Sisters: The Saga of the Mitford Family
Sara wrote: "Can you please verify The Duchess Deal for Humor MPG? It's the last one on the list and I'm afraid it may fall off!"Verified.
Maureen wrote: "so a Shirley Jackson book from option 1 and an autobiography from Option 2. Biography i would assume means I can use an autobiography, if so I can read Linda Bellinghams other biography which is in..."Autobiographies and memoirs do not count for this task. Sorry about that. The option is based on the fact that Shirley Jackson has a biography out in the last couple of years. So only a biography is the way to go.

I know this particular book is probably not a "ghost writer" in the strict sense of the term, but I don't want to have to make value judgements on the issue. So I should say no to this one.

Would you consider What Made Maddy Run: The Secret Struggles and Tragic Death of an All-American Teen to work for Option 2? It is a biography about this person, but the author also uses this person's story to talk about mental illness and suicide rates among college students. No hard feelings either way.
Would Blood Sisters: The Women Behind The Wars Of The Roses or Elizabeth's Women: Friends, Rivals, and Foes Who Shaped the Virgin Queen work for Option 2? They both have MPG Biography but appear to be about multiple people.

The subjects of the biography are a limited number of well identified individuals -- so they work!
For Option 4, can we use the actual word in the target phrase? Specifically, for the letters H-O-U-S-E from the phrase, the word "House", in: The House in the Cerulean Sea. Thanks.

Humor confirmed!

Sorry to be late with a specific answer for you. (I thought I had covered it, but i will try to clarify here.) From an earlier response:

Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption by Laura HillenbrandWill this work for option 2? I just want to be sure. Thank you.

The GR blurb says the book is a biography of Louis Zamperini. It works!
Would The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women count for option 2? Or is that too large a group of people? Thanks!
Jessica wrote: "Would The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women count for option 2? Or is that too large a group of people? Thanks!"
AS there are no specifically named people in the blurb, and it does say "hundreds of women," I am hesitant to OK this book. Is there somewhere else you can find to use it? If not, I will take the matter to the mods.
I read The Tao of Bill Murray: Real-Life Stories of Joy, Enlightenment, and Party Crashing which is definitely a biography, but it has tags of memoir (and autobiography for some weird reason since it is definitely not written by Bill Murray but by Gavin Edwards). I don't know why it is tagged as memoir as it is a researched book and not the author's personal memories. Is it ok to use for the biography task?

No problem! I will find a different book. Thanks!

Bookwrm526Hi! Can I get Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall verified as MPG Humor? It's the last one on the list and I don't want it to fall off before I finish the second book for your task :)

I am checking for option 2.I would like to read Kind van de onderwereld
sorry Dutch book. About a Claudia Schoemacher who finds out her biological dad is an Italian mobster.
it's about her life while her dad is taken to prison.
But it is writen by herself. Is it still oke to read then?

This sounds like a fascinating story. Unfortunately, it is a memoir (autobiography) and therefore does not fit the "biography" rule. The "biography" rule was set up to honor the recent biography of Shirley Jackson. I hope you can find a place for this fascinating book in some other task.

I thought so that is why I checked. I hope so to, otherwise it will need to wait until another readathon :)
Can I check this is OK as a biography? It says memoir in the description, but it should also be clear that the author and the subject are different people. Tracker

Known especially for her short story ”The Lottery” and her novels The Haunting of Hill House and We Have Always Lived in the Castle, Shirley Jackson has had a resurgence in recent years with the publication of some uncollected works and a wonderful biography (and a popular TV miniseries).
This summer, I plan on reading Hangsaman for the first time. It has gotten some notoriety lately as an especially important novel to her, dealing with the disappearance of a young woman, a disappearance with which Jackson developed a peculiar fascination.
For this task, read two books, one from each of two of the following options.
One book marked with the genres "Sequential Art", "Comics", "Comic Book", and/or "Manga" may be used for the task.
No Children’s Books may be used for this task.
Required: State which options you choose.
Opt. 1. Read any book by Shirley Jackson, or any anthology which contains at least one short story by her. (“The Lottery” is anthologized a lot!)
Required: If the content is not explained in the description, indicate the included story/stories by Jackson.
Opt. 2. Read any book which is a nonfiction biography of anyone who has ever lived. It does not have to have a main page GR genre, but it should be clear in the GR info that it is a biography; if not provide a link to show the mods that it is a biography. Limit to nonfiction, so no novelizations of someone’s life. A biography is an examination of the life of a single person or a small group of clearly identified people. Memoirs, autobiographies, or other works about an author's own life do not work.
Required: Provide a link if the biography is not evident.
Opt. 3. As Jackson also wrote two nonfiction humorous books concerning family life in the 1950s, read any book, fiction or nonfiction, with a GR main page genre of “Humor.”
Opt. 4. Read a book with a word of 4 or more letters in the title or subtitle which can be made from the letters in “THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE.” Letters may be used only as often as they appear in the target phrase.
Required: State the word.
Optional: See if you can find a copy of Robert Wise’s 1963 film “The Haunting” which is adapted from The Haunting of Hill House – probably the most successful and suspenseful of any of Jackson’s adaptations. If you are brave enough, watch it with the lights off!
