Happy first day of our second Read-a-thon of 2021!

The event runs from when you wake up on Saturday, May 22 until you go to sleep on Sunday, May 30. The goal is to read as much as you can and to have tons of fun. It's 9 full days of books and games. Feel free to participate in as few or as many games as you like.

We’ll be posting a game roughly every day, and there is a Team Challenge. It’s not too late to sign up for the team challenge if you want to participate.

There's also a great Individual Challenge, if that's more your speed (or if you need the extra challenge)!

So let’s kick off this read-a-thon with some questions, and don’t forget to keep coming back to the read-a-thon folder throughout the week.

1. What are your goals for the read-a-thon?
2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
3. Are you participating in the team or individual challenges?
4. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
5. Is there anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!

Be sure to check in to the progress thread to update us on your reading throughout the week!

1. What are your goals for the read-a-thon?
I'd like to finish at least 4 books. I am starting the read-a-thon 15% through an audio and 15% through a print book, so I'd like to finish those two, plus two more.

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
Going to finish Bossypants and Dear Child, and I want to read Emergency Contact for AAPI Heritage Month. Plus one more, though I haven't decided which one.

3. Are you participating in the team or individual challenges?
Both! Although I'm taking a really easy route for the Individual Challenge.

4. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
At home or at work. I'll be doing some standardized testing this upcoming week, so I'll have lots of reading time while the kids are testing.

5. Is there anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
End of school festivities, plus I need to work on finishing up some projects at school. But my summer starts on Friday so I'm really excited!

message 3: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1147 comments 1. What are your goals for the read-a-thon? Finish 2-3 books. Not very smart starting with a 400 page book.
2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish? Not really. I have to finish Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for my book club Thursday.
3. Are you participating in the team or individual challenges? Team (Go Sulawasi Pirates!)
4. Where will you be doing most of your reading? At home
5. Is there anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on! All the garden work that needs to be done. It has turned beastly hot in Nashville, so that will help keep me reading.

Kathy E | 3326 comments 1. What are your goals for the read-a-thon?
Read as much as I can.

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
Finish The Salt Path and Goodbye to all that for the Spring Reading Challenge (and this read-a-thon). I also want to read Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit and A Share in Death.

3. Are you participating in the team or individual challenges?
Both. I'm on the Madagascar Pirates.

4. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
At home.

5. Is there anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
Nothing really. A few appointments.

Kendra | 2105 comments 1. What are your goals for the read-a-thon?
Have fun. Maybe try to finish the ATY spring challenge.

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
I have Angel of the Overpass sitting here, but I want to finish my reread of the series before I start it.

3. Are you participating in the team or individual challenges?
I'm only doing the team challenge this time. The individual challenge has a read-in-order aspect that just does NOT work with my mood reading style.

4. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
At home. I'm still not leaving my house much these days. Maybe once I get my second shot......

5. Is there anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
Nope. I've got the long weekend ahead of me and nothing else really planned.

1. What are your goals for the read-a-thon?
I'm trying to break myself out of a reading slump while also focusing on reading books I already have, so we'll see how it goes.

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
Well my pre-order of The Anthropocene Reviewed just arrived so I'm pretty pumped to read that!

3. Are you participating in the team or individual challenges?
Go team Sulawesi Pirates! For the individual I'm just going to read what I want and then *sea* where I end up.

4. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
I've got an audiobook that I'll be reading at work, but my physical reading will happen largely in bed.

5. Is there anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
Work has been really busy, and then we're gearing up to move, so I'm often too tired to do anything at the end of the day. Hopefully audiobooks can keep me going.

message 7: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3845 comments 1. What are your goals for the read-a-thon?
Finish 3 books! I've been in a terrible reading slump.

The Thursday Murder Club
Migrations
The Travelling Cat Chronicles
Maybe The Leopard, which I just picked up at Savers today.

3. Are you participating in the team or individual challenges?
Individual

4. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
In my bedroom. In my backyard or at the park if the weather is nice.

5. Is there anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
The usual distractions: taking care of my dad, Duolingo lessons, endless housework/cooking/grocery shopping, watching my grandson on Monday plus The Voice and American Idol finales . Nothing out of the ordinary this week.

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments 1. What are your goals for the read-a-thon? To get even further with my challenge

4. Where will you be doing most of your reading? On my porch or in my den.

message 9: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments 1. What are your goals for the week? To finish 3 books. I might be able to finish 4. I’m off to a good start.
2. Are there any books your dying to start or finish? I started Legendborn (Legendborn #1) by Tracy Deonn earlier in the week. It’s perfect for the individual challenge spot 4: A book featuring a character with a secret. I put the book down & will pick it back up after I finish the first part of the challenge. I can’t wait to get back into that book. I have really enjoyed it.
3. Are you participating in team or individual challenge? Both challenges.

message 11: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments 1. What are your goals for the read-a-thon?
I want to read, like, fifty books this week. maybe. maaaybe. Okay, more realistically, I have 2-4 novellas, three longer books that I started today already about 15% into each, as well as many others in the 250-300 page range to choose from. So I think 5 books isn't actually an unrealistic goal... but we'll see!

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
I'm loving The Kingdoms so far and eager to keep reading & find out wtf is going on. I have a book club meeting for A Long Petal of the Sea during this readathon, so I need to finish that before we discuss it, anyway. And I'm really looking forward to starting Peaces!

3. Are you participating in the team or individual challenges?
Both, hoping to make them align well, along with the timing of the couple other readathons I have overlapping with this week... eek! lol.

4. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
At home, hopefully outside in a lounge chair by the pool.

5. Is there anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
Two other readathons that overlap with this one, including one that I'm running... a busy weekend today/tomorrow, with two family birthdays plus it's the end of the Premier League season tomorrow (Sunday) so I'll be watching soccer all morning rather than reading a ton. Everything else is just normal work & life. (I always read less on weekends than weekdays, anyway.)

Johanna Ellwood (jpellwood) | 327 comments 1. What are your goals for the read-a-thon?
Try to finish at least 3 books.

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
I'm reading Fangirl and loving it so much! I need to finish it or another so that I can read Anxious People which has been sitting on my nightstand for so long!

3. Are you participating in the team or individual challenges?
I'm doing both. Go Sulawesi pirates!

4. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
On a lounge chair on the deck. But it's a hot weekend..

5. Is there anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
Ummmm, work during the week. Always interferes with my reading. 😉

3. Are you participating in the team or individual challenges? Team and maybe I will check out the individual as well.
4. Where will you be doing most of your reading? At home.
5. Is there anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on! Not much.

It's been a very busy few weeks at work lately and also very hot, both of which tend to make me exhausted by the time I get home. I can only read in the evenings, so hopefully I won't be too tired.

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1046 comments 1. What are your goals for the read-a-thon?
To read as many books as possible to fulfill as many prompts as possible!

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
I was very anxious to start (and then immediately finished!) Mrs. Pollifax and the Hong Kong Buddha which was a new-to-me author and mystery series. Loved it! Love Mrs. P!
Anxious to finally finish How to Be an Antiracist which is so very enlightening and compelling! Such a call to action!

Also, I am anxiously anticipating Artificial Condition, the second installment in Martha Wells' Murderbot Diaries series!

3. Are you participating in the team or individual challenges?
Both!

4. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
At home. Outside of work and working out at the gym!

5. Is there anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
Actually, I spent 3 hours on the road on Sunday and will spend another extra hour on Tuesday night, IF my car repair has been completed on Tuesday as promised! Other than that I hope for an uneventful week so I can devote plenty of time to reading! (Though it never seems like enough time, does it? LOL 😲😋
