2000~2003 - YA - About a boy who is accused of murder maybe? Red and white on the cover

I remember this book being in classroom/school libraries and public library around the early 2000s. Usually saw it near Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, Just Listen by Sarah Dessen, etc. Had that kind of vibe but boy is main character? I think it was possibly about a boy who was accused of murder or similar, maybe he was autistic or otherwise neuro atypical or had a hard time speaking/interacting with others. The cover had red and white colors I think, maybe an abstract drawing of a kid in a hat? I could be totally wrong about the plot and the cover. I think it was a one-word title like "Cipher" or something? Please help!

Nope that's not the one. It's a very dramatic plot I think, something more similar to Speak. I wish I could remember more details.

That's not it either, but the plot is definitely similar I think. I'm less certain about the cover and more so about the plot.
