Hooray team! We are the first team to complete a ship!!

I started and finished Four Dead Queens yesterday (surprisingly... stayed up way past my bedtime). It doesn't fit any open slots for any ships available, so I put it in for the "thief" prompt for our second Galleon. It fits a few places, though, so I can slot it in elsewhere if we need.

I'm definitely going to finish Bossypants on audio today!

Samantha | 1584 comments Good morning! Yeah we got a ship!!

I was a little under the weather yesterday and didn't get much reading done :( Updated the spreadsheet with my sad numbers.

Today is a new day and hope to accomplish a bit more!

message 53: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Yay for a ship!

I'll finish my audiobook of Malice today and possibly also A Place for Us depending on how the day goes.

Bossypants got us a sloop! We now have two ships and a million rowboats lol

message 55: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I will most likely be finishing up The Maidens this afternoon because I'm flying through the audiobook. Not yet sure where it may fit in.

I also have half of The Road Trip left which should go fast after my buddy read discussion on the first half today.

I'm about 100 pages into Horrid and it is moving quickly too.

So, definitely will have one finished off today, maybe even two of the above depending on where the day goes.

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11196 comments Mod
Ohhh Deborah, what did you think of The Maidens?! It's one I'm really looking forward to this summer. Same with The Road Trip!!

message 57: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments I just finished A Long Petal of the Sea; it doesn’t fit one of the open slots on our unfinished ships, so I put it on the second galleon, under “gold on the cover,” but it could be moved around later.

I’m also curious to hear what you think about The Maidens, I read an arc and...well, I’m just curious what other people think about it 😂

message 58: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. I really had planned on spending the day reading but ended up spending a huge chunk of time reviewing emails and documents. I hope to finish The Festival Murders today.

message 59: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11196 comments Mod
I'm the same Rachel. I had every intention of reading a bunch today but I ended up getting a lot of stuff knocked out for the group and for work. Hopefully tomorrow is a better reading day.

message 60: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. Would a demigod be considered a fantastical creature? I just started David Mogo, Godhunter by Suyi Davies Okungbowa and realized we still need to fill that category. I have another book that will work as well but am not ready to start it yet.

message 61: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I would think a demigod would count.

I liked The Maidens... It took a dark twist that I wasn't expecting and did manage to surprise me in places which always gets a book bonus points. I think this is one that will likely be a bit hit or miss for people though?

The Road Trip wound up underwhelming me. It also took some dark twists... In a less expected way what with the cute illustrated cover. I haven't read her previous books yet but others in our buddy read said this didn't live up to love for her prior books. It was still a mostly fun read, just didn't wow me.

I actually wound up putting the road trip down as an adventure book because going on a road trip where everything that can go wrong will go wrong with your ex-boyfriend in the car seems like an adventure to me? If that seems too much of a stretch we could certainly change it. Lol

I got in a lot more reading today than expected and finished off my three in progress books. I'm starting All the Stars and Teeth next which I suspect will go fast. It would work for weapon on the cover and likely fantastical creatures.

message 62: by Marin (new)

Marin (marinbeth) | 187 comments We're making good progress on these ships! I didn't get much reading done today, but I added the book I just finished (Mister B. Gone) to the Galleon under fantastical creature.

I'm probably going to finish The Titan's Curse tomorrow, which has a sword on the cover (or at least the version I have does), but fits into a lot of other categories too.

message 63: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11196 comments Mod
Hooray team! We are well on our way to more ships.

Does anyone have a book with a murder weapon going? That seems the only thing standing between us and a galleon.

message 64: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I suspect I likely will finish All the Stars and Teeth tonight or definitely by tomorrow and it has daggers on the cover.

message 65: by Caitie (new)

Caitie | 144 comments Hi everyone! About 65% through The Night Watchman, and started Snow Falling on Cedars on Audiobook to listen to while completing mindless tasks at work.

message 66: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments The other cover option for my current audiobook, The Mauritius Command, has a sword on it (the cover I actually own could have cannons on it, it's just the ship they'd be on is way off in the distance, so... not really very visible, lol):

The Mauritius Command (Aubrey/Maturin Book 4) by Patrick O'Brian

message 67: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. I downloaded Three to Get Leo’s which should be a fast read and it has a knife on the cover

message 68: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. I meant Lei’d and it autocorrected to Leo ☹️

message 69: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I gave about 50 pages left in All the Stars and Teeth so will for sure finish tonight. It will work for weapon or (since we have a few weapon-ey books in progress) it could work for a fantastical creature toward a second galleon as there are daggers on the cover and a mermaid in the story along with other magic wielding folks.

I'm grabbing dinner then back to reading! 😀

message 70: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1584 comments I finished Local Woman Missing and Finlay Donovan Is Killing It today. I am unable to get into the spreadsheet right now so will update in the morning. I am going to see if there are any books I can start with a weapon on the cover.

message 71: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1140 comments I think I should finish The Mountains Sing tomorrow, and I finally made some progress on my audiobook Libertie today while cleaning the house I just moved out of.

message 72: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I just spent the last 3 hours watching tv.... I'm going to try to finish my book now.

message 73: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I finished up All the Stars and Teeth for the weapon prompt which gives us a fully functional galleon.

Starting Our Woman in Moscow which will take me a bit as it is 450 pages and I only have the print copy. I will probably start something new on audio tomorrow as well while I do my busy work.

message 74: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Nice job finishing up the galleon Deborah!

Chrissy, isn't cleaning so much better when you have a good audiobook?

I finished A Place For Us and put it in ensemble cast. Now I need to go wash my face from the tears streaming down my face.

Good morning, crew!

I've been so distracted by work this week! I'm going to prioritize reading today since I've done about as much as I can do at work at the moment. Hopefully I don't get any curveballs thrown my way.

I started listening to America's First Daughter yesterday but I think it will be better read than on audio so I may switch to something else.

We are the first team to get one of every ship! Way to go, group! Do we want to focus on getting more of one specific ship, or would y'all rather just read and fill in like we did for the first half of the week?

message 76: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I did America's First Daughter on audio and really enjoyed it!

We could just see where we can fit things in and then narrow our focus once we see were getting close on particular ships? I'm up for whatever though. I have a couple books I need to get to this week but then have some flexibility probably by the weekend to pick something up if we need to plug a hole in one of our ships.

message 77: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1584 comments It seems like reading and filling in is the easiest but if anyone is inclined to find books that fit the prompts with less options on the prompts that could be helpful... I often look for graphic novels to fill one of these. They aren't my typical read and so these read-a-thons are a fun time to explore them. I am going to give Nimona a go and it has a weapon on the cover. It looks like there are Dragons so could fit the fantastical creature prompt as well.

message 78: by Caitie (new)

Caitie | 144 comments Morning all! I hope to finish The Night Watchman and possibly Snow Falling on Cedars today!

message 79: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments My one planning thought is that we only have one more 500+ page book on the planning list (Rachel has it marked as in progress). Unless someone is planning on picking up another 500+, this will be our last galleon.

message 80: by Caitie (new)

Caitie | 144 comments Great point Traci. I don't think I have any 500+ page books available :(

message 81: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1584 comments I am going to try to listen to Midnight Sun, I am hoping that it will have a corniness that is enjoyable. It is over 500 pages and was available at my library so figure I should give it a go.

message 82: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments Finished two books this morning, The Message and The Mauritius Command. The former I put on “water on the cover” which finishes our second sloop! And the latter, “author initials in Pirates of the Caribbean” on galleon. (But they both fit several prompts if we want to move them around.)

I’m hoping to finish The Kingdoms today as well, which also fits several prompts (and also has a nautical theme, as almost all my books so far have had, weirdly! 😂).

message 83: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. I hope I can get enough of my 576 page book read so that I can finish it tomorrow evening. My son has a dentist appointment so I can finally get some uninterrupted reading time.

message 84: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1140 comments I just finished Felix Ever After and added it, we are one book away from a second brigantine! Go team!

message 85: by Caitie (new)

Caitie | 144 comments Finished Night Watchmen and added to the DAVY JONES LOCKER prompt

message 86: by Deborah (last edited May 26, 2021 11:58PM) (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I finished Elysium Girls which I put in for fantastical creatures. it had life and death as characters, mechanical horses powered by magic, and a daemon.

Barring anything going really screwy with the rest of the week I think I'll be able to get to Master of One which will be another 500 page book if we wind up wanting another galleon. it's long but it's YA with big print so suspect it will move quick.

I'm still working on Our Woman in Moscow in print and started The Book of Two Ways on audio.

message 87: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11196 comments Mod
I.... lied.

I ended up getting busy yesterday, and I have a lot of driving ahead of me today, so I'll get audio hours but won't be finishing a book today. Hopefully I can knock two out this weekend to make up for all the lost reading time this week. Last week of school before summer just hit me hard!

We are midway through the Read-a-Thon! Don't forget to check in on the games we've posted this week.

message 88: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I finished Dial A For Aunties and put it in for a short book. I picked up this book from the library thinking it was a different book that has been recommended on a podcast, but I'm glad I did since it was a fun read.

message 89: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments Traci wrote: "I finished Dial A For Aunties and put it in for a short book. I picked up this book from the library thinking it was a different book that has been recommended on a podcast, but I'm glad I did sinc..."

I loved Dial A for Aunties - it was a very different read from my usual and so much fun!

I just finished Our Woman in Moscow. It doesn't fit any of the open slots for the inprogress ships, so I put it in for a book with a thief. It is about spies and defectors who do steal government secrets so I think that fits.

I am likely to finish up The Book of Two Ways tonight or tomorrow and I'll be starting Master of One (the 500+ pager) soon thereafter.

message 90: by Caitie (new)

Caitie | 144 comments Finished Snow Falling on Cedars! I put it in as a book with an ensemble cast.

message 91: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments So, I haven't finished a book in a moment, The Kingdoms has been somewhat slow going (I'm loving it! but it's still taking me a while, lol), but I think I'll finish it tomorrow...and then finish my next few books in rapid succession. Going in order for the individual challenge is delaying me a bit, ha. I seriously might go, like, a few days with no finished book, then three or four at once suddenly.

Oh wow! We finished another galleon and we are one away from our second Brig and Schooner! I'm so impressed with this team!

We need a book that's part of a series and an adventure book to complete these two ships.

Also, y'all, I swear I will actually read today lol. I logged a lot of audiobook hours on The World According to Garp yesterday, but at 21 hours long, there's no way I'm finishing this week. I do plan on finishing at least One Two Three and Emergency Contact by Sunday though.

message 93: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. I have two more books of The Tiki Goddess mystery series I am re-reading and plan to read Too Hot Four Hula today and it should be a fast read. I find it easier to not plan to far in advance what I want to read.

message 94: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11196 comments Mod
That will slot in perfectly to finish our Schooner!

message 95: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1140 comments Project Hail Mary could be our adventure book, and I will finish it before the readathon is over, but someone else might beat me to it too.

message 96: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments My weekend kicks off in 2 hours, then I have nothing planned but an afternoon of reading apart from maybe a library run.

I will be finishing up The Book of Two Ways this morning - I have about 2 hours left on the audio.

I have made a bit of a start into Master of One but I am confident I will finish it up this weekend. It is only 15 hours on audio - so should be able to read it in about half of that. I have both the audio and print which helps.

I'd also like to read/finish All the Tides of Fate this weekend but I only have it on audio, so it will depend what projects I get up to and whether they pair well with audio.

message 97: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I finished Searching for Sylvie Lee and added it to water on the cover because Searching for Sylvie Lee by Jean Kwok

message 98: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1584 comments I finished Nimona and put it under weapon on cover.
Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

message 99: by Joi (new)

Joi | 43 comments I'm still here y'all. I just need to update everything.

message 100: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments Just finished The Kingdoms (I’m sobbing, it’s fine, everything’s fine, UGH that book was good), and put it on “adventure book” for the last prompt on our second brigantine. Should have another couple of books finished tonight and tomorrow... I tend to read several things overlapping.
