Natasha Hurtig | 7 comments So, I believe this is the same story. It is about a girl that keeps dreaming about this boy in a coma (I believe). She is connected to him somehow. When he is in the coma at the climax of the there is a circle of lights that is slowly being lighted up one by one. I believe that the reason he is in a coma is that he is being drained somehow?

The girl when she is awake sees a psychologist/therapist that is helping her remember something. She learns a technique to create a garden in her mind in which she will descend a staircase in her mind to get there.

The pov of the story is from the girl's pov.

She doesn't know this boy as far as I can remember. I remember listening to this book on audio story when I was about 11-13 abouts. (I am 30 now.)

Part of a series?
Time period/location story takes place?
Any other characters, like family, friends, classmates, etc?

Natasha Hurtig | 7 comments I do not remember the cover.

The only characters I remember were the girl, boy, and the therapist. I think the girl had a mother?

This is what I posted on Library Things a few years ago.

YA Fiction
1990s?
It is about this girl that has a therapist that causes her to fall into a trance/meditate. In her mind, she would go down some stairs and into safe place in her mind. A garden. She met a boy there which I believe is in a coma and she has to help him with her mind. In the end, there is this strange thing with a circle and electricity. I can't really remember much more.
I was also an audiobook and that was the media I heard it in.
I think the title started with the word Dark. Dark Inside?? Or something like that. Maybe.... I don't want you to think that close you mind off to other possibilities. I think the cover had some black on it.

Natasha Hurtig | 7 comments Some further details. The girl and the therapist would met several times throughout the book and she created more and more of her 'mind garden'.

As for the strange electricity thing, I think it was in a big black space where they either had to stop all the lights from being filled up/or the opposite. Because that would have killed him I believe. I believe he was trapped in his mind and couldn't escape.

I think that every time she saw him in her dreams/trances, he would be just a bit worse.

Mai | 1280 comments This one looks promising! It came up searching audiobooks on WorldCat:
Out of the Dark World by Grace Chetwin.
"Tells the story of Meg, a sixth grader who is having recurrent nightmares about a voice begging for her help. When Meg realizes that the voice belongs to a boy named Gavin whose mind is trapped inside a computer program, she uses a hypnotic trance to summon a sorceress who can help her free him."

Google Books has a snippet search of Mai's suggestion Out of the Dark World by Grace Chetwin:

https://books.google.com/books?id=1gK...

Quote from book:
"Just let them go with your mind. And if you feel a tingling, just ... Meg imagined a garden, a small garden to the rear of Tintagel Castle, King Arthur's birthplace in Cornwall near England's southwest tip. Mother had taken Meg to see the ... "

Can we mark your request as Solved?
