This is a query about a book series from around the 1980s set in contemporary time in the UK, think it was called the burrowers about elf like creatures that had to bind their ears to blend in with humans. Just remember that in the book they found their way to a man living in the junk yard who let them down a sewer entrance where there were with their own kind. Can't find much reference to it online or the title of the series.

This is pretty different, but has enough similarities to mention, including the title: The Borrowers and sequels.
It's not the Borrowers; it's Michael de Larrabeiti's Borribles series - collected in one book as The Borrible TrilogyEd: you're probably thinking of the bit in the 2nd book, The Borribles Go for Broke, when they're hiding out with Ben the tramp in his home in the rubbish dump on Feather's Wharf.

Yes that's it thanks! I was remembering bogg-something, Borribles sounds right.

Glad you found your book series, Shonshu. Here's the link for Genesistrine's find - the first book: The Borribles by Michael de Larrabeiti.
