epictetus. (epictetusmind) I was looking for a fantasy book where part of it also focuses on the growing affection between an adopted child and an adoptive father. A relationship that is realistic (in spite of being a fantasy book and all) but still warms your heart when reading.

Hannah | 47 comments Do you specifically want a father/son relationship? I can think of several with other adoptive parent/child relationships.

The Circle of Magic series by Tamora Pierce for mother/children relationships: https://www.goodreads.com/series/43551

Also by Tamora Pierce the Song of the Lioness series has an adoptive father-daughter relationship: https://www.goodreads.com/series/4392...

I would characterize the relationships in both books as realistic (though not being adopted myself, I'm not a great judge of realism), growing over time, and "heartwarming". In Circle of Magic, there are also male role models whose relationships to the main characters are meaningful and "father-like", but I think characterizing them as "adoptive parents" is stretching things.

The The Merciful Crow features an adoptive father-daughter relationship. Although it's already well established by the start of the book and is a central motivator for the main character's actions, the relationship does change and grow throughout the book, but maybe it's not quite along the lines of what you're looking for.
