Zombies attack a group of people trapped inside an office building/ several stories high building in USA. They had been looking for something/ scavenging. Read 2019-2021. Published around 2006-2010? Spoilers ahead.

I hope my title isnt to vague, but i remember the part being pretty far into the book.

I read the book in the last few years. And i think as ebook, what would it make in the last 2 years. It was in english. I don't know when it was first published, but it wasn't to far back. I think maybe in the last 10 - 15 years. I think its set somewhere in the USA.

The part i remember:
A group of people were looking for something/scavenging and got trapped inside an office building. Some of the stairs where already missing as there had been an other group of people (nothing to do with "my" group), that tried to dig themselves in there. There where big guns left (like a machine-gun just bigger and with feets. Sorry, don't know how to describe it better, no native speaker). One was partly melted and there were a lot of shell casings.
Over night/the next days(?) the building filled with Zombies and at one point they had to flee to the roof, because the Zombies were getting to them. They were so many they filled the gap of the stairs and came through the windows. There were even so many, they started to pile up on the sides of the building that was several stores high (not just 2 or 3, way more). The living shot a lot of the dead. But the Zombies just kept coming using the final dead deads as "ladders".

The part i'm not sure of anymore:
There was an other person/persons in a different building, shooting at "my" group.
And if i remember right, after an other group managed to distraced the Zombies on one side of the building, the group, down to 2 or 3 living, jumped from the building with parachutes.

It sounds like it possibly could be "City of the Dead" by Briane Keene. A decent part of the book takes place in a high-rise and it was pretty action packed.

Thanks for the try, but thats not to book i'm looking for. There were no crazy old guy. And the Zombies were just "There is nioce, there must be something to eat" Zombies.

Was it a full length book? I have a vague memory of something like this as a shorter story within a collection, but I don't remember that ending so it's probably a different zombies-tying-to-get-into-a-building story, which are pretty common.

Edit: I found the story I was thinking of - it's 'Season of Rot' in the book of the same name, Season of Rot: Five Zombie Novellas.
