I read this book several years ago, in our library. It was a hardback book, published maybe in the 50's? and it had a sort of Christie-of-Cutter-Gap feel to it, except the school teacher was a young man named York Allen or Alvin (I think, I remember it made me think of the War hero Alvin York) and he was having to fight some of his bigger students who were notorious for running out teachers. The settlement had a logging company and one day he finds out that there is suspicious business going on with it, and gets involved in a mystery with some of the loggers. And in the end he has a fight with his biggest adversary and wins, and stays to be a teacher in the hills. I thought the title was River Rising! or Rising Up! or River Up!
There were only two or three words in the title and it had an exclamation mark for sure.
I've tried googling it but can't seem to make headway.
