YA Adult fantasy about a girl with a poisonous touch. Only the royal family is immune to her touch so the queen (who uses the girl as an executioner) tries to get her betrothed to her son, the prince. I think the prince’s name starts with an “M” and he is known to have a cold touch. Girl with poisonous touch befriends her guard who holds secrets. I read this book in 2018? It was published sometime in the last two decades.
She falls in love with her guard who proved to her that she doesn’t actually have an “dangerous” Magic, and that the queen just poisons the criminals she plans to execute before she sends the girl down there to kill them with her touch. Soon after the girl find out that her guard (she befriended and fell in love with) was working for the queen and doesn’t know who to trust anymore.
She finds an ally with the prince whom she was to marry, and manages to run away. Some evil breaks loose and the prince is expected to be dead, only it’s is revealed in the second book that he still lives.
In the second book of the series, The sister of the guard is the main character in the story is told from her point of you. I think she’s trying to find her brother, but he was put under a spell when the evil broke loose at the end of the first book and he hasn’t been found yet. During her journey to find her brother she be friends a male and finds an unlikely ally with they girl who lives alone in a secluded cabin. Unbeknownst to her this girl in the secluded cabin is the girl with the “poisonous touch“ from the first book. She’s dyed and cut her hair to be unrecognizable. She was just able to find a new life here. Upon hearing that the prince who helped her get away may be in danger, she befriends the guard’s sister (neither of them know who they really are) and finds her way to some priests to help her break the curse.
At some point this sister was injured in a fight and almost was paralyzed. But the male she befriended is some type of healer and helps her get feeling back in her legs. I don’t remember if this was before or after she met up with the girl with the “poisonous touch” and the three of them began their journey to the castle.
I think there might of been a third book in the series? But I don’t remember.
