Ola | 3 comments I read this book around 2013-2014 and it was in my school library but I have no recollection of the author or the title! From what I can remember of the plot: These two sisters aged like 8-12 were moving to live with their aunt for some time (I believe because their parents were in the process of getting a divorce). Their aunt lives in like a small village and has this massive house which is considered as incredibly creepy by the people who live in the town. The sisters make friends with another young boy who lives in the town and they start becoming friends - and he tells them that basically the house their aunt lives in is haunted or there is like some sort of monster that lives underneath it. SPOILERS BELOW!!

I think the monster was known to eat little children or something like that, and the older sister spends majority of the book trying to like uncover this monster and whatever it wants (I think it came out mainly at night, so there are a lot of scenes of her waking up during the middle of the night and hearing creepy things. Towards the end of the book I think the monster ends up capturing the younger sister and the older sister has to somehow save her and the boy helps them. I don't remember the exact description of the monster, but it was like this completely black creature that at the time I read it reminded me a lot of slender man lol.

END OF SPOILER! that is as much as I can remember about the plot but here are some extra details that I am not as sure of whether they were actually part of it or whether I imagined them (I was 13 when I read this book): I think the front cover was of like some misty woods with maybe a gate in the centre of it. I think the title was just one word (although I may be wrong), the aunt was not very fond of the two girls, I think the house was quite a distance from the centre of the town. I think the story was set in historic England as I believe the girls had moved there from London (not sure what time period though).

This is as much as I can think of, thank you to anyone who helps!!

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5545 comments Oh great! Please do come back when you've had time to read it and let us know. There's actually a copy available on archive.org if having a quick browse of that would be enough to confirm whether it is the right book or not: https://archive.org/details/longlanki...
