However, if there is a team that is really far behind in points towards the end of the competition, would you consider joining them to help them out (if they'd like that)?

Hi! Would I Am Number Four work for 4. Read a book with only words on the cover (minimal to no design)?
Ilse wrote: "Hi! Would I Am Number Four work for 4. Read a book with only words on the cover (minimal to no design)?"Sure I'll count it. That's pretty minimal, although XBOX Experience 4 4. Read a book that has sunset colors on the cover (primarily red, yellow or orange) would probably fit better.

Okay, thank you! That’s true; I’ll probably use it for that then.

I was planning on using it for sunset cover 😂 I guess then I can use it for minimal so that we don't use it for the same task.

Hello! I'm not sure how to find "independently published books (that is, not from the Big 5 or their imprints)". Specifically with Spanish translated books. In my mind 90% of the printed books are part of a big imprint... and some that are independent aren't on Goodreads to write a review. Any tips about this? Thank you! <3
So for this challenge I planned to read "Always Human" a webtoon comic that is free to read online. Or you go and look for self published authors.

Here is a big, big list of indie publishers from Medium: https://medium.com/the-nonconformist/...
They are missing some LGBTQ+ publishers like NineStar Press. And webtoon counts too, if the comic is on GR and has a page number that meets the limit.
Amazon also has a bunch of indie authors through their Kindle Unlimited program? Some of those books are free without paying for KU.
I don't know about Spanish translated books, though.
Ooh thanks for the list and the tip to read something on Webtoon~ I asked because usually translated books change imprint depending on the country, and I was asking if I had to search the original book and which imprint is it. But probably they won't be as independent if they're translated haha ^^' Thank you though!

Yes, you would have to search the original imprint. But you're right—most translated books (from English, anyway) will most likely be Big 5.
UPDATEDWelcome all soloists! The games start June 1st—you can head on over to the Oregon Trail Odds and Ends page to start planning!
The Summer Games begin June 1st (which is tomorrow or now, depending on where you are in the world)!I hope you are all ready to read, and that you have a wonderful time!
My availability will be limited these first few days since I'm in the middle of moving, but Althea, Aless and Mina are here to answer any questions you may have.
It looks like you've already found this out, but here are some pro-tips:
-Buddy Reads are your money makers, particularly if you BR within your group and pick a book that can be used for several prompts
-You can complete a category multiple times
-Group Reads are also a fantastic way to get extra points—don't forget to participate in our thread!
-And have fun! That's the most important thing about our team games, because in the points don't matter, what's important is the friends you make along the way.
Really enjoying the prompts! Could you kindly clarify a bit more on Nintendo Trial 3. Read a book that features a road trip (this does not have to be a car road trip)? Would a train trip count or crossing long distance by foot or does an actual road need to be present?
Thanks!

So long as the majority of the book takes place traveling across land by road or trail (or rail), I will count it. The journey must feature prominently in the storyline—One Last Stop would not count, as it's technically not a trip/journey, but I Wanna Be Where You Are (car) or The End of the World Running Club (foot) would.

Thanks so much for the explanation and examples! This is really helpful! I was thinking of The Impossible First: From Fire to Ice—Crossing Antarctica Alone which looks to fit with this explanation.

Yep, it looks like it does!
Hi!I don't know why, but I noticed that the categories log of my team does not match up with the finished categories that have been entered in the completed team log. I do not know why this issue happens, but I cannot change it manually either.
@Elysian I checked your sheet and we missed to input the full formula, will be fixed.
@LaurelSince it's already too late I'm not gonna fix it now, if you can do it it's the Nintendo 1 row, it's missing the start/finish dates part.

@Mina, I'll tackle it in the morning when my eyes and brain are fresh! I'll also check out the other teams too, because I copied and pasted in.
@Elysian I hope that's okay—and sorry we missed that!
@Laurel I got from work and saw the sheet open so I tried editing it (woohoo, I can), and I fixed all the team sheets.. at least for the Nintendo 1, I didn't see other problems but also I didn't look carefully which doesn't matter because if there is a problem the members should/will tell us.

But thank you for fixing it!

No problem 😃 I'm a mod to help, and help is what I did.

Is there a cap for how many pages a poetry book has to be to count? (and as a side note: do poetry books count?)
Amelia wrote: "Is there a cap for how many pages a poetry book has to be to count? (and as a side note: do poetry books count?)"Poetry books do count. The book needs to be over 100 pages to qualify.

Fab, thank you :)
Hi, would The Glass Hotel count as a book set on a boat? One of the timelines takes place there. If not I'll count it as dual timelines!
Megan wrote: "Hi, would The Glass Hotel count as a book set on a boat? One of the timelines takes place there. If not I'll count it as dual timelines!"I'd recommend going with the dual timeline approach.
Rosina wrote: "Can we read more than one book for a prompt?"Prompts can be completed multiple times, as can categories.

You're welcome. I hope that answered your question!
The biggest thing is that a reader can only count their book for one prompt, but you can read books that fulfill that prompt as much as you want.
I've just finished The Kingdoms and half of the story takes place on a ship. Would that count for Atari Affair 3 or would the characters have to be on the ship the entire time?
Raquel wrote: "I've just finished The Kingdoms and half of the story takes place on a ship. If it's half the story that it's on a ship, then that would count.
Question to the Mods: Do books about space travel qualify for the roadtrip promt?General question: Does anyone have recs for the roadtrip prompt? It is somehow difficult to find YA books that fit it before you have read it.

Yes, I would count space travel for the roadtrip prompt, so long as the journey is prominent and plays a large role in the story (Becky Chambers' The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet would count, for example, whereas a book where space is merely a set dressing would not).
For YA roadtrip, maybe:
laurel [the suspected bibliophile] wrote: "Elysian wrote: "Quetion to the Mods: Do books about space travel qualify for the roadtrip promt?Thank you! Yes, that makes a lot of sense. In 'The Martian' space travel is not the focus point, but surviving on the planet is.
Also thanks for the recommendations! Definitely found a book to read for the challenge.
