Apologies to the moderators if I did the topic the wrong way. Looking for a post apocalyptic book about a group of Scouts (Boy and Girl) at their camping site. This book probably came out between maybe 2008 to 2012? Not really sure about that. Anyways, one of them, a boy named Mike cottons on to the idea that they will need some sort of defense and he fashions a spear of sorts. After the adults vanish or die off, he eventually becomes the leader of the group. They eventually find out that they are trapped there by some sort of fog or mist that kills anything that ventures into it. Near the end of the book, they also meet up with some member of the US military (Rangers probably) and join forces with them.

Oh and I forgot, the other boys and girls end up calling Mike "Chief".
