Fantasy books that are part of your happy place! Books that bring you back or conjure fond memories.

Please continue recommending books that fit the theme. Nomination rules no longer apply, so all authors and formats welcome.

This is a very subjective theme, but we seemed to find enough common ground for this list to make sense :)

These are the books that were nominated:

Luck in the Shadows
Daggerspell
Momo
The Dragonbone Chair
The Fire's Stone
Daughter of the Forest
Small Gods
Dragonsong
Jhereg
The Forgotten Beasts of Eld
Dragons of Autumn Twilight
The Vintner's Luck
The Talisman
Alanna: The First Adventure
Shadow Magic
The First Book of Swords
Arrows of the Queen
The Magicians' Guild
It
The Twilight of Magic
Ladyhawke
The Crystal Cave
Mairelon the Magician
Murder at Avedon Hill
The Mirror of Her Dreams
Villains by Necessity
So You Want to Be a Wizard
Boy's Life
The Blue Sword

Cheryl (cherylllr) Oh, I remember you saying 'not eligible' a lot of times in this nomination thread. I hope those members bring their suggestions over here!

(I am not one of them, sorry.)

CBRetriever | 6113 comments as far as short stories - these would have been my nominations:

Ingathering: The Complete People Stories
and
Believing: The Other Stories of Zenna Henderson

and while not Fantasy (well, partly Fantasy): The Witches of Karres by James H. Schmitz

2nd The Witches of Karres and add It's a Good Life (which is more horror than Sci-Fi/Fantasy)

Jan (jan130) | 413 comments Yeah Lirael was my ineligible. I've got a soft spot for the whole series, but particularly that one.

Another old fav is The Farthest Shore (Leguin) although to get its full power you really have to read the first two books as well. Prince Arren. What can I say? One of fantasy's best heroes IMHO. The ending of TFS is *wow*.

I know Dragonsong is on the list up there, but Dragonflight is the one that takes me right back to my teens. I fell in love with Lessa and F'lar, Ramoth and Mnementh. *sigh* Never really got over that one LOL.

I first read it about the same time ET came out in theaters - I thought Drew Barrymore would have been the perfect the Leewit and I wanted Kristy McNichol for Goth.

Lori Riggleman (loririgglemanauthor) | 2 comments The Sword of Shannara hit a homerun for me during my formative years.

Paul Perry (pezski) | 292 comments Lloyd Alexander's series beginning with The Book of Three is excellent, although that first book is the weakest of the five.
