Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1437 comments Thought it would be interesting to track the weather in everyone's area - I find weather influences my reading spots and moods heavily. With Florida this time of the year, it is usually hot and muggy so I don't read outside much unless it's cloudy/rainy. When the weather is windy or cooler, I read on the porch a lot, and may go somewhere outdoors and "pretty" to read.

I looked at my forecast - like many times, it says it may rain. However, most of the time it ends up changing by the time of the read-a-thon and rarely is a cloudy/rainy day >:(

Right now my forecast is 86 degrees, scattered thunderstorms forecast at 40%. This could easily change but we'll see.

How does the weather where you're at influence your reading spots or traditions, if they do at all?

Sierra Richards (redd617) | 9 comments Florida as well! Predicted 81 degrees with thunderstorms ⛈ I love rainy days to read though.

Larissa Langsather (langsather) | 28 comments Good Question! I have also thought about this because I live in Oregon (traditionally it is quite rainy on read-a-thon). My daughter says she only likes participating if it is raining. Weather forecast calls for "Cloudy" 24% chance of rain and a high of 66 degrees. That is great sweatshirt, blanket, and book weather, but probably not as rainy as we like it. If one of the Bingo squares says to exercise and it is warm (like at least 67 degrees) I try to do an audiobook and take a nice long walk. The weather doesn't generally affect what I read so much as where because I love reading outside in the summer. Right now it is warm but a little bit too windy to read outside.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Well, right now it's effing snowing in New England and that's a bunch of BS. lol. But it should all be gone by Tuesday as it gets back to 50-60 degrees.

Predicted forecast of low 60s right now for Apr 24, 30% chance of rain. I tend to try to read as much as I can out on the back deck so spring and fall are perfect for that because it's not too hot out. August Reverse Readathon I read on the front porch which is in the shade all day.

I don't mind if it's raining on readathon day though because then I feel super cozy with blankets and pillows and tea and pets! But then I get sleepy being that cozy. lol.

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments I sure hope it’s gonna be a sunny weekend as we (my friend I’m doing the readathon with and I ) have rented a house and love to read outside while it’s sunny and warm. Previous years we’ve been lucky but now the weather forecast says it’s going to rain, 12C. Until today it said it was going to be sunny. So I’m hoping it’ll change back to sunny! 🤞

I love rainy days for reading too. I often put on Rain ambience videos if it's clear outside for read-a-thon days. Mine is 86, I'm in central. Which area in Florida are you?

That weather sounds perfect for cozy reading, rain or no rain.

Yes, I understand that. Love reading on my porch with the cats only if the weather is good - I don't like the muggy, sweaty weather. Even if hot during the day in Florida, sometimes the evenings are okay, so I will see! I've made it a new routine to do an evening audiobook walk around the neighborhood during read-a-thons also.

A lot can change with a forecast within days, so hopefully so for you. I have found some love hot weather, some not so much (like me).

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 282 comments I'm in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It had gotten nice(r) here, and then a couple days ago we got a cold front or whatever and got like 25cm of snow. So. It's starting to get nicer again, though. But still, neither read-a-thon ever has going outside weather lol. Currently the forecast says it'll be 5 and windy. :|

Sierra Richards (redd617) | 9 comments I'm more Northern Florida so pretty close in temp! I agree on the ambience videos. Ambience Worlds has some wonderful ones.

Stephanie (thelittlebookishnerd) | 265 comments I'm in Northern California and we've had nice weather lately, but we get a lot of wind this time of year. Readathon day currently shows 75*, mostly cloudy and breezy. It might be okay weather to read outside for a while, it will just depend on how strong the wind decides to be that day.

message 13: by Agnès (new)

Agnès Denie I live in The Netherlands, and we're getting a flow of Northern wind the second half of the week. So I'm looking at noon temperature of about 13 degrees C. Not great for the time of the year, but good for staying in as I should, given the C-word situation in my town and country.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Now looking at sunny and low 60's woohoo!

message 15: by GabsAboutBooks (new)

GabsAboutBooks Texas weather has been insane this past week. We went from 90's to a dangerous hail storm to 40's-50's! Forecast for this weekend is cloudy with low 50's and high 80's. I either like it to be sunny and nice reading weather for outside or raining so I can cozy up inside and read.

message 16: by Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (last edited Apr 19, 2021 10:08AM) (new)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1437 comments Hm, let me check if Florida forecast has changed since it does so often.

Unfortunately it looks like it has. Now it's forecast to be 85 and partly sunny without a chance of rain on Saturday. Bummer. Hopefully it changes its mind again and brings the rain back.

I visited Texas a few years back and had a sample of the insane weather. we went when it was hot, didn't pack sweaters, and it turned icy cold the next day when we were at a convention hotel. Was pouring rain and we suddenly froze. Next time I'll know to pack clothing for all weather just in case.

Rachel (almostasandwich) | 1 comments It’s supposed to be rainy and fairly cold on Saturday so the perfect weather.

message 19: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) I'm in California and it was 90 yesterday and that is just WAY too hot for me. Luckily I looked at the weather forecast and it is predicted to be in the low 70s on Saturday. I am so excited about that because I always make a crockpot bean soup for my readathon and its just so hard to eat that when you're also sweating because of the heat.

I struggle to read in the heat. I like for it to be in the 60s or low 70s. I want to wear comfy jammies and have a blanket and just feel nice and cozy.

message 20: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments I’m quite the opposite, I like my weather sunny and warm so I can sit outside. For April’s Dewey’s my friend (the only one I have who is also a reader) and I rent a house with a nice patio or garden, usually in or close to nature.

That sounds lovely. I think I wouldn't mind that so much. But when its in the 90s and I'm sweating everyone, its just hard to be comfortable and just enjoy my book. But to each their own :)

Lol, indeed, my internal thermostat is broken I’m afraid...

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1437 comments It looks like there are rain chances again, although slim. I can only hope, we shall see

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1437 comments Oh, no. 😐

Today they removed rain chances for Saturday and bumped the temp to 90. Depressing.

The moved our rain chances as well :( But the anticipated temp went down a few more degrees so I'm still happy! They're now saying a high of 66. I am over the moon with joy if this happens!

It's supposed to storm tomorrow in my area, but Saturday is looking to be a wonderful day for outdoor reading. Partly cloudy, temperatures upper 70s. I'll probably spend a little time by the pool reading.

Sometimes it seems like the weather conspires against us

Mine dropped a degree and partly cloudy again

Updated Forecast - 89 degrees, 64% humidity, UV Rating: Very High, 10, small chance of rain at 5 am, 2 hours before read-a-thon ends *rolls eyes* Hopefully we get a major change again, you never know with Florida. Sunday says scattered thunderstorms and 84 weather, of course, which would be much better to happen on Saturday instead like it was originally forcast.

Nadia Batista (booksbynadia) | 86 comments Reading from Porto, Portugal, here! And tomorrow not only I'm having a rainy day, as thunders may pop in around 6 p.m.

I love rainy days, for everything; I'm not a big warm and sunny days supporter. So having this weekend all to myself and my cats and my dog and my books and lots of rain and thunder, I just feel like going to sleep right this moment (it's 11 a.m.) and only wake up tomorrow!

message 35: by Eswee42 (new)

Eswee42 | 31 comments Reading from the Netherlands! Weather looks sunny, but it's still pretty cold. No reading outside for me this weekend. :-(

Good thing is, I can easily enjoy a hot chocolate in the evening!

Wulfwyn (franceswulfwyn) | 58 comments It is suppose to be 57 and sunny here in Alaska, USA. I actually prefer rainy days as I love to read with the rainfall. This area being part of a rainforest was a big draw for living here. But I will take the sunny day and hope it will stay in the 50’s.

This is so funny because for me it is also 66 and we are like "yes, its cooling down for a week". It is expected to spike back up to the 90s in a week.

Aušrinė (ausrejurke) I am currently in Riga, Latvia. It is a sunny, but cold (3 °C, real feel -2 °C) morning. Still too many hours to wait for the official start of read-a-thon... The forecast is cloudy with 50% chance of rain and only a bit warmer. So I will be staying inside on my sofa.

Last weekend was perfect for reading outside. It was 17 °C, but in the sunshine it was even warmer. I went to the park and read for 2 hours straight!

message 43: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whiteislephoenix) | 15 comments It’s a perfect day to read here in Statesville North Carolina. It’s going to be in the fifties and raining! I love reading when it’s rainy and cool out.

Doris (webgeekstress) | 63 comments As I write, it's just getting on to 10:30 AM in Turkey, 63° F and cloudy. We're forecast to hit highs in the mid 70s, and there's a likelihood of rain overnight and into tomorrow.

Oh, and we're on lockdown this weekend (coronavirus restriction), so it's not like I can go out anyway. May as well stay home and read!

Looks like we're getting that traditionally rainy read-a-thon, my fellow Oregonian. I might not get out of my PJs all day!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1437 comments My forecast stayed the same with 90 --- but there's hope since there's rain chances moved from 4 am tonight, to 8 pm tonight. I doubt we'll get rain but perhaps. And if it's cloudy outside today much of the time, the 90's will be more tolerable. We'll see.

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 282 comments Cold this morning (-7) but going up to 9 today in Winnipeg, so I guess maybe I could open a window in the afternoon lol! Definitely not quite lying on the grass weather!
