Notifications
I get them in out of date bursts and even those come infrequently. In some ways that's worse than none at all. It took me a while this time around to realize that they'd broken again.
Now I'm being notified that people are posting in threads and even when I check via the Web I can't find the post. That's more frustrating than no notifications.
I was getting notifications for new comments yesterday and there weren’t any comments at all from the people they were saying commented. Just the same comment they alerted me to the day before. Goodreads is getting so good it tells you before hand who is going to comment.
Anna, I hope you’re keeping up with the trends. Now you’ll need to announce the re-read schedule for random books that have never won the polls.
I've gotten a couple of envelopes that looked like bills lately ... addressed to someone else in a completely different address. Maybe Goodreads has taken over the Finnish postal service?
I got a notification for this in a tolerable duration of time! Did the Finnish postal service take over Goodreads?!
(Crap... I think we are having the html problem again. Can't seem to work even with editing the messages...)
I was trying to say:Postal service*s*; not all mail comes handled by Posti alone anymore, after all. With that many operators in the mix, it's no wonder the punctuality has gone rather downhill.

It seems we have the opposite notification issue now -- the online notifications are showing up (which I normally ignore), but not the e-mails. :pThere's a help post indicating this was done intentionally, and temporarily, but with no current ETA for restoration:

I’m getting e-mail notifications now, but they don’t have the actual comment that was posted, just the group name, topic name, and the “See more on Goodreads” button. The known issues list still says e-mail notifications are turned off altogether though, so it may only be a short-term change.Maybe this is their way of dealing with the issues we were talking about in message #’s 40 and 41. I’d rather get a blank e-mail notification than no e-mail notification, at least. :)
My feed has been glitching lately. The "top friend" check mark in the boxes seem to be toggling off and on, so I am missing lotsa updates.
I also had no idea that someone had accepted my friend request; normally this shows up in my feed. I would have thanked that person in a timely fashion had I known. It was when I was in the edit friends section, horsing around with these missing top friend checkmarks, that I saw that person in my friend list. Here I had been feeling all kinds of sorry for myself since they didn't respond to my request (😉), when they had accepted it who-knows-when.
Michelle wrote: "The "top friend" check mark in the boxes seem to be toggling off and on, so I am missing lotsa updates."Mine seems stable in recent weeks (I just checked it again), but I've had that problem in the past. Drives me crazy(er)!

Is it just my account, or is anyone else having notification issues? I'm not getting them on my kindle app so I went to the computer and they're still not showing up.
I'm seeing it too. Notifications appear to be totally broken. The threads that should be pinging me are showing up with new comments on my Discussions page.
Beth wrote: "Same here. Haven't had any notifications since late yesterday evening at least."Me, too. At first I thought that everyone was being awfully quiet.
I have my notification settings quite strict, and I received topic (and group monthly message) notifications earlier today, so it seems to work for me.
The last notification I got from this group was about 24 hours ago, which is very strange for this group.
I also saw my notifications list stay empty for about a day, which is unprecedented for me. Then, I just received an avalanche of 43 notifications in one shot. The GR system is broken and getting worse every month. I am seriously asking myself if I really want to stay with such a poorly run company (not targetting our mods, who do excellent work with little or no support from GR).
I’m pretty new to Goodreads and this is my first big blip. Since it’s owned by Amazon, they ought to have the resources to stay on top of things. On the other hand, these big websites are complicated, and it’s over ten years old and probably very crufty - the site just feels that way…
I had no notifications last night, and then this morning, scored multiple notifications from hours and hours ago, and then lots from the same thread. 🤦🏽♀️
Daniel wrote: "On the other hand, these big websites are complicated, and it’s over ten years old and probably very crufty - the site just feels that way…"Goodreads has the coding quality of a one-week school project, at least when it comes to discussions. If you compare it to any forum system, it's lacking in all aspects - anti-spam, moderation, quoting, tools for group mods, linking, referencing other posts, you name it...
...if Amazon wanted to make it a decent site, they'd have to rebuild it from the ground up.
I’ll give ‘em two weeks and they should have something twice as good!Amy, I’m sighing right along with you.,,
Tomas, I keep saying all that to Allison about once a week! I hate that we don't have proper tools as mods.
Notifications seem to have disappeared again for me. I had the same problem all of last night (PST time). Those did show up in a big batch when I checked this afternoon but I guess that wore the system out. Sigh...This is the third time that I've seen this (or at least noticed it) in the last two days.
Ya know, maybe we should all follow in Norma Rae's footsteps if GR doesn't get this notification nonsense back on track. We can form a Readers Union and threaten a mass exodus. This is ridiculous.
This might be a good place to remind folks we have a Discord server and a group at Librarything! I am not presently active there, but I can be. The mods are actively looking at alternatives should GR continue to be unusable.
