Finished (view spoiler)[Damn if I didn't stay up all night finishing this. It got so good and intense in the end I couldn't stop. I am very pleased with this ending. I never in a million years saw Zoya becoming Queen but then again I never realized she'd be able to dragon out either. So awesome especially since now her and Nikolai can stop dancing around their feelings. I am a bit shocked by the Darkling's taking on such a burden and shouldering the world now on his shoulders. Guess he finally got tired of trying so hard for so long he realized this is a way he can actually help. Think it also had to do with the cohabitation of the humans body he was in. Still mad over Isaac and now David though. As if Genya didn't suffer enough now she lost her man on her wedding day :( (hide spoiler)]

The exact same for me! I did find an in-depth summary of King of Scars, though, and reminded myself of what happened. What didn't you like about King of Scars. I was so incredibly disappointed!

I don't remember much about that book itself, which in a way, is saying a lot. :D I only remember that I thought the beginning was very boring. Nina and her chapters didn't interest me and her constantly talking to Mathias in her head annoyed me a lot. Nikolai was one of my favorite charackters before and I felt like he was not his "old self" in that book.

Yeah, I disliked it for the same reasons. I was excited to read the book because it was supposed to be from Nikolai's perspective but it was mostly from Nina's and Zoya's. I really dislike Zoya, so that was a major reason for my dislike.

Chapter 7 (view spoiler)[ This is so much better than the first book so far. I am actually enjoying everyone's chapters, although Zoya is still exceptionally boring. I love the battle scene in chapter 6. The whole world war 1 conflict with magic users is very cool. I love how Jurda Parem has been incorporated into the battles like mustard gas. It is just so cool to read a fantasy set in a time of this level of technology! (hide spoiler)]

Oooh I didn't expect Joran to be Matthias' murder. That was a very interesting and good twist. I can't believe Nina is denying the fact that Rasmus is abusive and is so willing to let Hanne marry him??? I mean he is abusive!! If anyone is going to hurt Hanne it's him.

This book is sooo good. It's so much better than the first book. The darkling's chapters are really good. In fact I like all of the chapters, although Zoya's is not quite as good as the others. I can't wait to see how this will end! (hide spoiler)]

I would absolutely love to see the next Six of Crows book with Nikaloi as a major character. However, I have a feeling this may be the last time that we see Zoya, Genya, Nikolai and the like (or at least their povs), which is sad. I suspect Nina will not be back either.

I finished!! (view spoiler)[ I should have seen it coming, the hints were there about Hanne tailoring herself to become the prince. It was so beautifully done and a neat way of showing a trans character finding peace in a skin that finally felt like their own.
Loved seeing Zoya become the Dragon Queen and begin to come to terms with her own being and allow herself both the strength and weakness of loving others.
Nikolai letting go of the throne was well done as well.
Not sure how I totally feel about the darkling and his martyrdom.

All and all I loved the book though and am impatiently awaiting the next in the Grishaverse (hide spoiler)]

First quarter - (view spoiler)[This first quarter was very action-heavy and battle-focused. I liked the intensity and the political intrigue.

The discussion over whether the Little Palace was a prison or a sanctuary was interesting. The grisha were taken as children from their families, turned into soldiers, and trained to fight the wars of the kingdom. However, it was never enforced and these children might have had no other home or place that accepted them without it. The Darkling is still a villain but I'm not sure this place was entirely a failing of his.

The Darkling wants Alina. I don't trust his intentions but I'm excited to see her return to the page. (hide spoiler)]

Fourth quarter - (view spoiler)[I ended up really enjoying this one and flying through the second half. It definitely was a bit too long for the story it contained, but a compelling read still. Zoya's dragon transformation was my favourite part to read about, but I cared far less for her relationship with Nikolai.

Nina and Hanne's relationship, however, stole my heart. How could Bardugo make Nina (and I) suffer again?? I'm so glad she proved to actually not be dead!! (hide spoiler)]
