Sci Fi short story - likely published 1970s - features planet with crack down center, society living at bottom of crack, only 10m sunlight day - visited by astronuts

Trying to find this short story for my husband. He likely read it around 1980, but it was a paperback, so likely published well before, 1970s or even 1970s.

He recalls this story about an alien planet with a large crack (fissure, canyon, etc). There is a city at the bottom. The people only get 10 minutes of sunlight through the crack a day and they have to crane to see it. They are visited by astronauts (from Earth?) and have to assist the astronauts with making the steep descent to their city. It is a trap and the astronauts escape.

He believes that another story in this same book is about angels creating human emotions. (But that story might *not* be in this same book; I previously created a separate thread about this story here:

He is not sure if all of the stories were written by one author or if it's an anthology with multiple authors.

Yes, I started the new thread because I thought people might recognize this story more easily. I am NOT positive that they are from the same book; my husband said that they might be, but he couldn't really recall. I hope it's okay to keep this thread up!
