Have your thoughts on Tamlin changed after reading ACOWAR?

I'm really confused. He was a total prick at the Meeting, yet he helped revive Rhys after the War. Why? And then he was depressed all alone in his Court. Seriously, Spring Court was like a ghost town. Knock, knock. Who's there? No one. No one who? Oh, and Tamlin. *laughs pathetically at own joke* That wasn't remotely funny. Okay, I just want to know if anyone pities Tamlin, or if they still despise him for the Toolbag he is.

I don't feel bad for him. I guess I can see where people are coming from because he showed that he still cared for Feyre by reviving Rhys, but that's not an excuse for being the way he was. I didn't care for him from the start.

Not really. I still hate Tamlin because we didn't get a proper redemption arc for him but I'd be interested in reading a book about his redemption arc (especially because I want Lucien to be happy)

I don't like Rhysand at all. He's just another stereotypical bad boy who gets away with everything because apparently he loves the girl but he doesn't know how to show it. And then everything he does is justified because he has a very convenient explanation for all of it.

Tamlin is different though. I never hated him but I agree that what he does is very possessive and completely fuelled by PTSD and over-protectiveness. But the reason I defend Tamlin is that what he does is completely out of character. I get that he isn't really being himself which is what drives him to go paranoid but I think it's ridiculous how easily everyone turned on Tamlin after going crazy for him whilst reading the first book. They don't even stop to question him or wonder why Tamlin, the sweetheart they were fangirling over, is now acting completely unlike himself. And when Tamlin sacrifices everything to get Feyre back, including allying himself with the antagonist, everyone blames him. But if Rhysand did that, everyone would be like, "Look, this just proves how much he loves Feyre." I can't stand Rhysand and I think so many Sarah J Maas fans are absolutely blind. They just fall for the good-looking bad boy characters for no reason.

I understand where you are coming from. I like Rhysand more than Tamlin, but its not by that much. I think where others are in love with Rhysand is because Feyre picks him. At one point, she is done with Tamlin and never turns back. They think Tamlin is the villian because he is trying to control and force Feyre to be with him when she ultimately chooses to be with Rhysand. But I agree with you, Rhysand is at the bottom of my list of favorite characters.

I’ve always liked Tamlin. I guess I like Rhys too (more in the first 2 books) but I’ve just never hated Tamlin. I can’t begin to understand what Tamlin did SO bad to where we are to believe Tamlin is the WORST and the only one who deserves and gets abused by EVERYONE. There is literally not one person lol. Rhys doesn’t even deserve almost all the joy he has lol but I’m glad he experiences love, friends, a FAMILY. It’s a GIFT. He doesn’t deserve but he has it anyways which is amazing. Rhys should be very careful laughing and mocking others that don’t have what he has and that are at a lower place in life than him because he didn’t have to have all that honestly, and IF it all goes away one day I don’t think he would handle it well either.

Ok I SO agree. Tamlin does not deserve HALF the hate he gets. Like yea he made a comment about Feyre during the high lord meeting that he shouldn't have, but Rhys literally stole his girlfriend from his WEDDING. Like that man was stripped of his entire life at that point. He was so depressed to the point where he was starving himself and was all alone in his palace. I FELT SO BAD. He was never directly BAD to Feyre. He was just extremely protective WHICH MAKES SENSE given that she was literally taken away forever by Rhysand and he was left alone, which was his greatest fear. I really hope he gets a redemption arc. I just want him to be happy :)

Honestly? Yes and no. I LOVED Tamlin in the first book, HATED him in the second, and was just kind of...wary in the third. He may have saved Feyre and helped save Rhys, but he also insulted her in front of the entire congregation of High Lords and never even bothered to wonder about who would have been his sisters-in-law at all. He was like that song by Katy Perry, Hot and Cold. He's hurt, he lashes out, he calms down, he's a good guy again? Never trust a "good guy" who just gets a little violent sometimes. My thoughts on Tamlin are confusing because he himself is confusing. Is a child? A High Lord? A villain? A hero? The worst part is, he never touched Feyre on purpose. It was more like his power exploded, and she happened to be in range. It's not a justification, because it did happen once again, but what if Rhysand did that? Accidentally released his power, and Feyre was in range? Maas never showed us Tamlins apology, because it would show he was not as villainous as she wished. He was more...human, and while that may seem ridiculous, considering he's a Fae, that's the only explanation I can think of. He was loving, abusive, trying, and human.

Rhysand also allowed himself to be tortured for 50 years to save a city and was willing to let his mate marry someone else so she could be happy. Even in the first book, we see Tamlin's abusive side. When he bit her, the next day he expected her to apologize. Then, he also treated his friend like garbage and wouldn't let Lucien speak. Don't even bother to say he was stressed out. Even then, he shouldn't be a douche. Rhysand NEVER treated Cassian or Azriel like that, AND he also treated Feyre like a PRINCESS. Have you ever read ACOFAS? The gift scene was so fluffy, that I cried. Rhysand always put Feyre first. Tamlin always put himself. He didn't want to deal with Feyre's emotions, so he just took what she offered and left. He made her little more than a ghost, and it took Rhysands persistence and kindness and unfailing devotion to bring her back to life. Rhysand is a sweetheart, my favorite character, and ultimately, WORTH A THOUSAND TAMLINS. Did you forget Tamlin led his father to Rhysands sister and mother? Do you forget he watched as they died? Tamlin betrayed his friend, betrayed his court, and betrayed his love. He isn't worth near as much as you make him to be, nor was he as much a sweetheart as you portrayed.

i like rhysand more than tamlin. i understand where tamlin was coming from, but he still made dumb decisions and he has to live with them. rhysand isn't perfect, but he's nicer to Feyre and is much less restrictive with her. he is also nicer to everyone else, so i think rhysand is better.

He is self destructive and wants others to help him do that so acts like an asshole so that others will tell him that. He revived Rhysand because he actually wants to help but is just too proud to tell anyone that. He is the making of his own hatred.

Maybe I'm off here, but I do remember Tamlin abusing Feyre mentally and once physically via the destruction he caused to the study that one time in this book. I think that although his intentions started off good, I felt that after Under the Mountain, he felt like she was more a possession rather than a person. He locked Feyre in the house and didn't give her space to do anything real - which he KNEW was not how she lived her life on a daily basis. Although he may have been feeling protective, that was NOT the way to go about it. Lets also not forget that Lucien saw everything that was happening and did nothing to help.

I do agree with the idea that if Rhys did it, he would be seen as protective and loved. I truly found Feyre, Tamlin and Rhysand to be insufferable by the end of the series. Tamlin is laying in the bed he made, and if he truly wanted resolution, maybe should have TRIED to talk with Feyre about how she was feeling. As I recall, talking about under the mountain and Amarantha was forbidden in spring court.

While I think Tamlin may have started as a good guy, his actions in book two and three were unforgivable, and we can tell he emotionally damaged Feyre because she doesn't want anything to do with him.

HOT TAKE please don't hate on me. I don't hate Tamlin
He made a lot of weird moves especially in ACOWAR I think he made mistakes. BUT if we look to the end nobody really tried to save Rhysand. If it weren't for Tamlin I believe he would be dead. He stepped up was the bigger person and saved him. Although let's go back to the next two books. Look at Rhysand's activities looks a lot like Tamlin doesn't it? The shielding her overprotectiveness and he's just a prick I don't understand what happened but I get grossed out by his POV. I don't think Tamlin was made for Feyre but he's not a horrible person.

He was such a jerk with spilling the tea about his sex life with Feyre. No man should EVER do that, not even to his "boys." I hateddddddddd him for that, and was actually so disgusted.
At the end when he helps Rhys come back to life, I could not even give him any brownie points for that. It seemed like he did that intentionally to get Feyre and the others to love him. It did not feel genuine, in my opinion.
He's just jealous that he lost Feyre to his least favorite person, and needs to find a way to accept that. If he can do that, then maybe he will have a chance at redemption for me personally.
I am currently reading the last book in the series, and I am constantly hoping that Tamlin at least TRIES to be better.

Do I hate Tamlin? No. Do I believe that his possessive/controlling behaviors led him to Feyre making the choice that she did? Absolutely. We have to remember that once Feyre saved everyone from Amarantha, she was still very much traumatized & Tamlin allowed her to go through with that alone. She felt unheard, unloved, and ultimately, Tamlin ignored who she actually was rather than wanting to keep her in his perfectly safe den. He was in love with the idea of someone loving him and while unfortunate, it's unfair to Feyre. Rhysand on the other hand, saw who she really was and accepted her for that. He never tried to change her, but he did encourage her, listened to her, allowed her to be in the inner circle and not be left out and ultimately, he was the one who knew how strong she was on her own. The way Tamlin reacts towards Feyre once she leaves him and disagrees with his way of living, he treats her like garbage and THAT is more telling than their entire relationship. I could go on about Tamlin's red flag behavior, there is so much there, subtle and otherwise but I do believe he needs to heal that hurt he has long before Feyre was even in the picture. It would be nice to see some growth in him alone, not fueled by people around him to fuel his ego.
