Yes Lynn, two members can read the same book and tick off two different prompts/tasks. In fact, in order to fill prompt A book read by a teammate for this readathon, you have to read a book that someone else is reading, there's no other way to achieve this!

Thanks so much for clarifying that for me/us! :)

Thanks so much for catching that and letting us know!
I'll go through the team spreadsheets again to delete them.
Very much appreciated!
Edited to add: Done!"
You're welcome! I'm always glad to help! 😊

What is a "Wild Card"? (amended)
Your team will earn one Wild Card for every 1,000 pages the team reads or every 15 hours of audiobook listening. Your team can use a Wild Card to check off that pesky prompt that nobody on your team has planned a book for. New parts below
Whenever you use a Wild Card, be sure to indicate that in its corresponding "Completed" column. Choose wisely how your team wants to use its Wild Cards. Once one is used to complete a prompt, you cannot take the Wild Card back later.

Help! Nobody on our team is 25 years old or younger!
Here's what you do in that case.
On the Planning page
Leave the first trio task as is unless it really bothers your team.
On the Tracking page
Have which team member in charge of spreadsheet upkeep overwrite the first Trio prompt (A book you wish to read at 25)
with either of the remaining two prompts:
*A book you read at age 25
*A book you’d recommend to your 25-year-old self <--this one's easier *coughs

Think back, think back, think baaaacck.
Nope, easier to recommend something, right?
Well, I guess it depends on one's life stage.

Hi Ruthie,
I just checked your Unearthly series on Goodreads and see that both #2.1 and #2.5 are separate books. If 2.1 & 2.5 formed a single book, I'd count Unearthly as a 4-book series, but since they're separate, it becomes a 5-book series.
Edited to add:
Go ahead and count Unearthly as a 4-book series, Ruthie.
I checked the GR pages for #2.1 and 2.5. Though 2.1 has its own Goodreads entry, it's only 4 pages so let's ignore it.

Your own time zone. It was written somewhere.

Just had to razz ya! :) Age 25 would be 40+ years ago for me! :) Though I was reading children's books to my sons at that time!

A Teammate wants to read Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie for a book in the prompt "4 books in a series of 4"... "Death on the Nile" is the third book in The Colonel Race which is a series of 4 books featuring Colonel (and MI5 agent) Johnnie Race. In books 2 and 3 (Death on the Nile). Johnnie Race works with Hercule Poirot. So this is a subseries of Hercule Poirot, I think....
GoodReads (see below link) lists The Colonel Race series as a series of 4 books and I was just making sure that this book would count for this prompt! :)
https://www.goodreads.com/series/7639...

Niharika is correct.
Each of us start and end the readathon based on our own time zone.

"Also, would 2312 work for the prompt with the #12 in the title?""
Niharika
Yes.

Alison,
When I looked at the individual book page, I saw Poirot #17 and thought: "No."
Thank you for providing the link!
Checking your link shows that Goodreads actually lists the four books as a separate series, so I believe it's fine to use Death of the Nile for the 4-book series prompt. Knock yourselves out, Tome Raiders.

You asked: "How are we dealing with graphic novels? I have three on my stack at the moment between 250 and 500 pages each (and all of them are serious works), but I wasn't sure if I should maybe read them outside the readathon? But if they can count that would be great too."
For this current readathon, we'd like to stick with standard books & audiobooks. Perhaps in the future?

Bernadette reads books with larger prints, so they have more pages than the standard edition. How do we count the page numbers in this case?

Ushashi, large print books are also counted as long as there is an entry of that book on Goodreads. Please ask Bernadette to select the right edition/format of the book on Goodreads and she can record the number of pages listed for that edition. Can you check with her if she is able to find the edition she is using on this platform?

Almeta, please record in hours. For example, say your audio count for the day is 2 hours 19 minutes, then:
2 hours 19 minutes = 120 (2*60) + 19 = 139 minutes
In hours, 139/60 = 2.31666.. rounding up to 2.32, so please record 2.3 in your tracking sheet.
Also, if you ever come across any issues with the formulae in the spreadsheet, please let us know.

You asked: "For this current readathon, we'd like to stick with standard books & audiobooks. Perhaps in the future?"
Thanks for clearing that up oshizu. I was able to read the one I needed for the other challenge last night with this info, so I really appreciate it.

"can one book be used for multiple prompts?""
Hi Niharika,
Only if that book is read 2 separate times by 2 separate teammates. One person reading one book during the readathon should only count that book towards one prompt.

Ushashi
Trisha already responded to this question, but I thought I would share what I do.
When I buy a used copy of a book that happens to be a large-print edition, I go to the "Select edition" feature of its book page and choose instead the standard hardcover edition or another not-large-print edition that was printed by the same publisher.
So, for example, I count my 851-page large-print edition of Jane Seymour's biography as a 576-page book.
You have Trisha's answer, though, so feel free to go with that.

That is what has been done in other groups to which I belong.
Should we exchange all of our books for large print? Wink Wink.

This sounds doable. And more justified too, to be fair. I will let Bernadette know. Thanks.

The "Wild Cards Earned" value should round down and be a whole integer. I think all the spreadsheets are fixed now.
Adding/deleting columns and/or rows might change the spreadsheet formulas and keep them from auto-calculating like they should.
If you notice any problems or odd values on your team spreadsheet, let us know so it can be remedied. :D

Almeta, since this is a team readathon, we are focusing on the completion of all the fifty prompts by the teams. Once you’re done with your planned prompts, you can try finding books for unfinished prompts and read towards completing them, of course please check with your other team members before picking up unfinished prompts in case someone is reading to fulfil those. After your team is finished with all the fifty, please let us know here so we can tell you the next steps.

Everyone needs to update their page count and audio hours on a daily basis in the tracking page, irrespective of whether or not they have finished their books. If you’re talking about sharing your team’s progress in the Team Progress thread, that can be updated at your will, just ensure to update once by the end of each week.
Editing to add:
Daily tracking is crucial for your team to know the number of wild cards you’ve earned.

All prompts are assigned and I have to trust that my team will complete their commitments.
It is not likely I will know what prompts will be unfinished until the last day of the challenge.
I guess I will just read for any prompt that strikes my fancy for my remaining six days.

For the prompt, "Read 3 books you shelved during the month you joined this group," is that for the calendar month you joined or within 30 days after joining?

Unfortunately, this is one of the biggest downsides to assigning prompts; the team cannot complete all the prompts until every team member finishes their assigned books. Meanwhile, faster readers will have no prompts to work on but can certainly read (or listen to) whatever they wish to contribute toward Wild Cards.

Amy
The prompt refers to the calendar month.

This is the hopeful answer I was hoping for. I am guessing that reading for prompts already existing can be counted as Wild Cards even though a prompt has already been completed. . Just wasn't sure if a whole new set of prompts was going to be issued.

Is it only reading for the prompts/tasks that count toward wildcards? This is what I have been thinking.

Any book you read during the readathon counts toward your team's overall performance. If your book doesn't fit a prompt, it still counts toward your team's Wild Cards.

Thanks!

I second this!!"
Thirded.
I have a question on the four book series. Jeff VanderMeer just announced a fourth book in the Southern Reach series but it's not out yet. Can books from this series still count for that prompt, or does the quartet have to be complete and published?

Amy, I think it would count as a 4-book series even though the the fourth is not out yet.

Oh fantastic! Thank you.

Fourth! :D

If a teammate lists a book they are going to read and you have read that book in the past (within the last year or so), can you count that book "read a book ..."
Alison, the latter! You need to read (or reread) a book that is being read by another member for our readathon. :)"
That was how I initially interpreted this task, but then figured it couldn't mean that two team members had to read the same book...
So if I understand you correctly, two team members are reading the same book for this readathon, correct? If so, can they each count that same book for two different prompts/tasks?
Which was the question I intended to ask when I landed here, then I read each posting in the thread. I have two team members who want to read the same book so I wasn't sure if we could do that and then use each one for a different task/prompt or not. :)
