I was wondering if somebody else who’s reading it could tell me what is their understanding of what it means for a child to be “lifted” in the storyline context. It just keeps bugging me that there isn’t some kind of glossary included to explain many of the terms he uses along the book. Thanks.

I felt like this when I read the book! I kept looking back to see if I'd missed something.

Think CRISPR... genetically modified to a higher performance.

Keep reading! Ishiguro doesn't spell things out for you. He slowly reveals.
