Susan A | 2162 comments Lea- Laurala recommends a book to you. You need to recommend a book to Laurala from the shelf she posted

LaurLa | 5088 comments Sorry, Lea - I probably confused everybody. If you want to pick a book for me from the shelf I posted, that would great.

If you would post a shelf where you'd like me to pick from, I'll do that.

I am so sorry I totally misunderstood this task :-(

My pick for you is Coming Home, as this was the first book I added to my TBR list after looking at your list

You can pick from my to be read list

Review:

I should have paid a little bit more attention before adding this book to my list. Turns out this book has the tag "chick lit". Had I noticed, I would have passed on this book. In general, I'm not a fan of chick lit. I enjoyed the humor at times, but I prefer more romance and less stupidity. It wasn't terrible, but it did seem to drag on. I would consider listening to book 2, but I haven't added it to my TBR.

message 108: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 5088 comments HI Lea - I'll pick The Duchess Deal for you since it's on the list you posted and you were wanting to read it anyway. I love Tessa Dare and am actually looking forward to starting this series myself!

This has been on my TBR for a long time - I'm glad for that little extra push to read it ;-)

I have to finish a couple of books for a challenge in a different group by tomorrow, so I probably won't start this until Monday but hope it will go fast once I start it.

Jodi | 332 comments I’m glad we’re not super competitive. Lol..I’m always down for a good competition but I don’t like speeding through my books. I know this is called the Amazing RACE haha but I’m glad I have a chill team :)

message 111: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 5088 comments I appreciate you saying that, Jodi. I like to be on competitive teams but even though I read pretty fast, I don't really enjoy the speed read pressure. RL has been getting in my way a lot lately and I hate the feeling I'm letting down a team if it takes me 2 or 3 days to finish a book...

message 112: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 2162 comments I am my own worst enemy. Put me on an in it to win it team, and I become obsessive. For this reason, I don't often join race type challenges. I am happy that our race isn't frantic.

message 113: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 5088 comments Susan A wrote: "I am happy that our race isn't frantic."

I know that the Bachelor challenge isn't a race challenge but speed reading comes into it with that scavenger hunt rose (the one where you try to find all the tasks in one book) that is unlimited (or was) - it turned me off that challenge - it seemed like people were reading an insanely number of books to qualify for that one rose - it wasn't speed reading to win a race but it was speed reading to get as many done as possible - I felt like there was no way to keep up and I just lost the taste for the challenge.

I don't do that one anymore. I played once or twice, but the last time I played people were nasty and accusatory. I read fast; I listen to books at 2.0 at the slowest...any slower and It sounds weird and I lose interest, I read while doing almost everything, and I don't sleep a lot. I pre-plan so I knew what book to start for every topic. I had a teammate like me; we were randomly assigned. My team won most or all of ...I don't remember what it was, but whatever it was that needed to be done as quickly as possible after the call...which was at an assigned time on a scheduled day...so really easy to plan for. Anyway, people were so nasty about it, and basically accused us of cheating. I won't play that challenge again.

Task 7 - 31. Read 6 5 books rated over 4.0.

Books selected for this task need to have an average rating of 4.0 or higher. You can find this info on the main book page under the title. You can also add this to setting to your shelves! Please include the average rating in your completion posts. If the average rating could potentially fall below 4.0, for example if it is just 4.0 with very few ratings, a screenshot might be advisable.

This series has grown on me. Each book is better than the last...a good thing since I didn't book 1 very much. Anyway, it's very OTT, but now that I know what to expect, the craziness is fun. I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Aiden Snow. He does a nice job. It helps that I like the sound of his voice..

Susan A | 2162 comments LaurLa wrote: "Can we choose England or UK for this task?"

Yes I like that

message 139: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 2162 comments I'll ask MKat if we can use UK, or if we have to choose one of the countries (England) that it is comprised of.

It doesn't matter for me, my books are set in England.

I can do 2 for this task.

message 140: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 2162 comments Actually -- can we just go with England? Less questions to muddle through. Like if we picked UK, would our proof have to reference UK? And is UK actually a country or some other word to describe a group of countries?

I only included UK because if the blurb was specific to Scotland or Wales... does that 'count' as England in the general sense of terms? But I think if we say UK, England, Wales and Scotland (and Northern Ireland) are covered under that.

But I'm good either way. I have one definite England (blurb mentions London) on my list for the month. I'd have to look for another one anyway so I can make sure it's specific to England.

message 142: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 2162 comments I'm opposed to UK if the proof must reference UK specifically. If it does not need to reference UK specifically, as in England would be accepted, then I am fine with it.

I guess I'll ask MKat.

It isn't always easy to see, but the 6 does have a strike through there. So you are to read 5. 😊 I am far from perfect and may forget to edit the task requirements, always feel free to ask!

Review
This was a lovely falling in love story. I was pleasantly surprised that the author did not use the situation with Lucius' parents to create a "great misunderstanding" -- the main characters actually talked through a difficult situation, actually several difficult situations. Unfortunately, it seems like Imogen is the star of this series. I suppose I should feel sympathy for an orphaned and widowed 20 year old woman...but I quite liked Tess, and she was really quite awful to her. I think I will continue the series.
