No I’m probably going to stand that out too since school will be starting and I probably won’t read much

Aww, sorry to hear that. But, well, school is important, and it's the rational choice to prioritize it in such a case, no matter if you're teaching or being taught.

I thought both when I wrote it. But now that I think of it again, I'll lay more weight on the author being LGBTQ+ so that authors can count who couldn't or wouldn't write characters explicitly LGBTQ+ due to circumstances. I'll change it accordingly - thanks for the input.

Same.. but it will nd soon, so hopefully, I will, next month.
It's a pity there are so many of you who won't have the time to join in June. So far, the teams will be rather small.
But there still are six days to join in, so maybe we'll see some more registrations after all.

Tomorrow (Saturday 29th) is the last day to join.
So anyone who hasn't joined but wants to, please do so now!
Otherwise we'll just go with the two small teams we have :-)

Thanks, Noor - so far it seems to have gone well :-)
How is the challenge going for you all?

Do I post the points I got on this page?
Yes, as the teams are so small, we'll just keep it to one thread.
Don't forget to list the sexual/romantic orientations or gender identities which get representation in a book and thus earn your team points. :-)

Is it per character or per orientation? As in, if there are two characters with the same sexual/gender identity, does that count as one point or two?
@Noor: Per orientation/gender identity.
@Blobbie: Can't find any sources saying she is either. So possibly not.

Just checked - you're right, it's weird... I'll see if I can figure something out, somehow.
But congratulations on the first 5 points!
Edit:
Think I found the problem! When I go to your shelf for the challenge, the book doesn't seem to have a set end-date. Therefore the challenge page won't count it.
Try and set the date again, hopefully that'll fix it.

Hey everyone,
I'm very sorry I'm such a bad challenge mod this month. There's a lot of change and chaos happening in my life at the moment.
I promise it'll be better next month, and I'll fix this challenge finale tomorrow night.

Two teams will be having an epic read-off, each trying to read more books written by an LGBTQ+ author (ideally with with at least one LGBTQ+ character), than the other. But the winning team will not only be decided by number of books but also by the number of different "rainbow colours" they come across in their reading.
Duration: June 1-30, 2021
Registration:
Please register by posting in this topic. Registration is open now until to May 29th. Teams will be revealed on May 31st.
Rules:
1) For a book to qualify for the challenge, it must be finished in June and be written by an LGBTQ+ author. There are bonus points for LGBTQ+ characters.
2) Each finished qualified book earns 1 point, but teams also get 1 point for each different sexual/romantic orientation and gender identity - or colour of the rainbow, so to speak - in their reading (but each one can only be counted once).
3) For a book to be counted for your team, please make a post in this topic when you finish it, and note characters with their non-heteronormative sexual/romantic orientation or non-cis gender identity.
4) Don't forget to pledge books for your team on the Challenge page after creating your challenge shelf. (Georgia Peaches Challenge Page, Black Flamingos Challenge Page, Guide for joining challenge-page-challenges here)
5) Be friendly, be respectful, have fun - maybe even learn new things!

PS: The teams are named for books that fit the challenge: The Black Flamingo, Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit
PPS: In case you need to find a few more LGBTQ+ authors, here's some help: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of... , https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/5... , https://www.marieclaire.com/culture/g... , https://www.advocate.com/books/2018/6... , https://www.popsugar.co.uk/entertainm...
PPPS: I myself won't take part in the challenge unless teams won't even out otherwise.
