Adam | 2 comments YA fantasy book series(?) I read sometime in the mid to late 2000s (as in the decade).
The main character (male) and his old eccentric neighbor(?) get transported to another world. They are separated on arrival and the main character runs afoul of the local princess due to being transported into her outdoor bath or something. She ends up as another main character and I think her name had "Blue" in it somewhere, but I'm not confident at all about that. I think she had POV sections at some point too.

At some point in the series, the neighbor mentions some theory about the idea that we actually wake up each day in a different universe with a new set of memories. The theory wasn't relevant to the story, but it's one thing that stands out in my memory and the reason that I remembered the series.

Everything after this point I am only 60% sure was the same series and might be some completely different series.

I think the world was entirely made up of an extremely gigantic tree. I want to say that because the world was a tree there was one area that was always in darkness where dark elves lived or something.

One of the later books dealt with some people climbing the tree, and no one had been up there in a really, really long time to the point that no one knew what was up there.

The books had maps of different parts of the Tree too if that helps.
