SciFi (kind of) Short Story, collection. Great flood. Man thinks there will be a new Biblical Flood in near future, no one believes him, he builds a boat. Read in 1980s/1990s (translation in Dutch). Spoiler ahead.

I read the story (in Dutch, but I'm fairly certain it was a translation of the original) somewhere in the eighties or nineties. Based on my reading preferences in those days, it must have been part of a science fiction story collection.

Spoilers:
(Note the plot is partly similar to Evan Almighty, but the story is more wry than comedy and it's not that)

- A man (the story is probably set in the US, but I'm not 100% sure) thinks there will be a new Biblical Flood in the near future.
- No one he knows believes him, but he sets out and builds a boat anyways.
- Once the boat is done, it indeed starts raining (and keeps raining).
- The persons who didn't believe him now flock to join him on his boat, making all kinds of demands.
- The story ends when the person who built the boat is thrown overboard by his "guests" and it stops raining.

I remember the final sentence of the story like "{the persons} were looking down at X. X was in the mud, looking up at {the persons}".
