This book has stuck with me for 40 years. It was so WEIRD! A young girl runs away ? and is in the wilderness living in the remote Scottish highland? I think. She has some kind of meeting with a man because then she is pregnant and has a baby... but the baby, or possibly both of them die and there is a scene where the bones of the baby are in the rocks... possibly intermingled with her bones? It is not Island of the Blue Dolphins or Julie of the Wolves. Such a weird book for an 11 year old 7th grader to read! Thank you for your help!

OH MY GOSH! That was easy! I found that book very disturbing! I'm going to have to get a copy and re-read it. I may have just been too young.

Thank you! There were a lot of crazy kinds of things that seemed normal in the 1970's. My 13-year-old sister got questioned by the librarian for checking out Beverly Cleary's Fifteen.... but this book was readily available to me as an 11-year old! It was a K-12 library. I am not advocating that it be censored, but it has stuck with me so long because it really shocked me!
