Hi, I read this approx 1988, aimed at Teenagers / young adults I think. The characters follow a small stream into a wood; the stream widens into a large river and there is a whole land / kingdom in there. Called something like "Mirkwood" perhaps (but I know that's from LOTR!). Hope someone can help! :)
