Worryingly, I could see myself tagging along for a dare!

I’d totally go even though I know I shouldn’t go. But.... it’s real monsters! How can I say no to that?
I am at Chapter 4, and enjoying how lots of characters are being introduced because I get the feeling it's so that we care when these people start being shredded and eaten etc lol.I have to say that, despite Jurassic Park telling me this is a terrible idea, I'd probably still take the tour haha. MONSTERS, GUYS! <3

Logically, I'd say no way. But it seems like an opportunity of a lifetime. I'm sure if I got a good deal I'd go. But I wouldn't take my children. That seems extra irresponsible. I'm surprised there isn't an age limit.

Yeah . . . I can't get over the little kids on the tour bus. Parenting fail, much?
Frances C, Right? This tour does not seem like it's supposed to be kid friendly?! Just, why? I am having a hard time putting this one down! I will have to look other work by this author!
ok, so no one's asking it and this is key: fav monster encountered so far? I still really like the snake woman, but I'm at the point where more ghouls are coming out to play, so that may change. But seriously, snakes are awesome and a snake woman... going to be hard to top that monster.

I took my kid on a ghost tour.

I knew a lot of people would say they'd go, especially in this group! I'd still probably stay away. And yeah, allowing kids in is irresponsible, more by the parents than the ride itself. As far as favorite monster, I think I'd go with the insect monsters with the pretty faces, I think they called them harpies. I guess I'm just a sucker for a pretty face lol
My favorite monster so far is the jumping skeletal humanoid. Jump, The idea is so creepy. Jump, A corpse like being Jump, hopping quietly. It seems scarier than the monsters that scream and roar and put on a show.
dang that was a crazy ride. :o I just finished it. Man it flew by fast... Favorite monster... probably those gigglers. Lots of very creative nasty creatures though! I also liked the bugs with human faces. Oh! and the flying see through fish. wtf with that guy... So many cool monsters, I'm half tempted to do some fan art of them. Ha! They just sound fun to draw!
it was a fun read! The premise is scary, but i didn't find it a scary read at all. I like it, love the gore and i was entertained :D
Reading the audiobook and about halfway done. I've really liked it up until now but....(view spoiler)
Just finished it, I liked all the weird monsters, but it got a bit tiring through the book, as much of it was just one more killing scene. I wish it would have been somewhat more atmospheric and creepy.
Trustno1 wrote: " I wish it would have been somewhat more atmospheric and creepy."I definitely get that. I'm not finished (just to the point where we get more to the individual characters coming together), but while there is lots of gore, adventure, and imagination, I never get that sense of paranoia that I'd love to see in a supernatural forest like this.
Frances wrote: I never get that sense of paranoia that I'd love to see in a supernatural forest like this"Exactly, if you want a gory, action packed book with lot´s of imagination this is perfect, I personally just prefer the spine-chilling ones somewhat better
Wanted to really like this, but fell short for me. Obviously completely OTT, but lacked any cleverness in humour and plotting. A nice idea, but felt like a first or second draft, something written really quickly and not given any real care to refine.
Best part was all the creative monsters and ways to die. Unfortunately it didn’t invoke many feelings and got repetitive. If it was creepy or tense this could have been perfect
Chapter Eleven: So far I’m unimpressed. It’s a fun idea but the characters seem forgettable, the jokes forced, and very few of the monsters stand out for me. There are exceptions, the “hopping” creature in Chapter eight was disturbing, but otherwise it doesn’t really work for me. Maybe this will change as I assume the situation is just going to get worse.
I’m on Chapter 7 and enjoying it so far! I agree I probably wouldn’t go on the tour. However, i’m the kind of person that would obsessively read articles and watch videos on it, talk to my friends about it... and then one of them would end up getting me tickets as gift and I’d be like “oh thanks so much :D” *has a panic attack*
I finished the book and gave it a 3. I considered DNFing it earlier, but I continued on and the story turned out decently in the end. The isnt really a scary monster horror story, it's more of a madcap adventure through a killer forest with lots of dark humor thrown in. In that regard it reminds me a little of Mark Trufo"s Zombie Fallout .
50% completed. Up to chapter 22I am liking this a little better although the humour continues to take me out of the story. The situation described can be the stuff of nightmares but the character’s reaction is often described as being little more than sarcasm or wry amusement. For example, one character, on being dragged away to his almost-certain doom takes the time to admire the view, thinking: “ you know, you did pay for this vacation.”
On a plus point, the monsters are varied enough to be interesting, a couple of them have been genuinely horrible, and a few of the characters are beginning to stand out. I am curious as to where this is all going.
I enjoyed it a lot, but I agree it was not a scary story.... it felt more action adventure with monsters instead of straight up horror?
I enjoyed this much more than I expected to--not my usual flavor of horror. Hope they make a movie; I can see it as a double feature with "Cabin in the Woods."
I finished last night. I liked it. It was fun, but I didn't love it. I agree it is very Jurassic Park meets Cabin on the Woods (loved Cabin in the Woods). I would definitely watch it if it was turned into a movie:)
Totally forgot the reason I borrowed this was for a group read lol. My thoughts up to this point:5%
Interesting start, this seems like it's going to be the perfect brain candy to get me out of my reading slump. Also, I'm really liking the narrator so far.

That's the aspect I'm struggling with a bit too, Frances tbh. He's meant to be the main source of evil (unless something worse pops up in the last 20% of the book...) but the way he talks to Lee/Christopher, he doesn't come across as terrifying or evil and I find it difficult to see him as much of a threat, if that makes sense. Perhaps I'm over-thinking it!
I was a little disappointed with the ending. it seemed rushed. It was a great book though! I agree with the jurassic park meets cabin in the woods comparison. It fits well!
I read this in 2017 and remember being let down by the ending but liking the rest of the book. But 4 years later I am just noticing it’s called The Haunted Forest TOUR. Talk about oblivious, I thought it was just called The Haunted Forest.

Yeah, I wanted an explanation but that one was pretty lame. Cliché even.
I just finished and I didn't love it. It felt a touch flat and devoid of emotion. It wasn't bad though. I loved the diversity of monsters. If this was an action movie, I would definitely watch it, but as a book it just didn't pack the punch I was hoping for.
I can see this being a GREAT movie, but as a book it's a bit flat. I'm having fun with it and I like the creative monsters, but it's not going to be an all-time favorite. I'm still made about the silly master villain.

All of the characters are kind of blending for me, and the different monsters are in and out of the story so fast that none are really leaving an impact.
Would be great if people could spoiler tag details please as I'm still going! :)
I finished and actually enjoyed it! It was exactly like it was advertised for me, a fun, occasionally cheesy, but thrilling at times, adventure! Plus it was a fast read. I would recommend to anyone who needs a fun change up!

I'm at 64% now and just not connecting w any of the characters. I DID get excited about THIS, though: (view spoiler)
Just finished last night. How is everyone adding the spoiler that is a hyperlink which collapses???
***spoiler, spoiler, spoiler***
Once Pestilence comes onto the scene, the fun nature of the book merges into the silly for me. I did not care for the demon's character and the forest plus his plan was too easily explained. It was very dues ex machina in the end to torture the host (for what must have been a few minutes only?) and bammm, trees disappear. If the ending had just been redone, this book could have been great. As it was, I did enjoy and have fun reading it, but not an all time favorite.

If you click on the 'some html is ok' hyperlink above the comment box, it will give you the formatting. :) It may not work on the app though? I use desktop view even when I'm on my phone because the app sucks lol
