Although I still have Lore left, but I don’t know if I want to finish it any time soon :/ it’s not holding my interest

ok so i just brought the AEITA threads higher in the discussion list, and commented on the non-spoiler thread! i'm happy to start whenever you guys are :))
i've also prepared the book-music thread (i just need a while to pass before GR will let me make the thread) so that's sorted, and i'm working out things for the gif/image-character thread, so no worries about those :)
I honestly can’t wait to dive into this series and finally finish it haha !
Thanks a lot for organising the new music thread, you are a gem. If you need help with anything else shout out and I’ll help :)

also sorry, i was too busy (and kinda forgot) to do the end-of-month newsletter, but i'll definitely do the start-of-month one!
oh and i've kinda given up on this 'buddy read poll a month in advance' thing because i kept getting confused and messing up... do you mind if i just make the poll for the next month, and leave it at that? like i'll only have the july poll in the june newletter, not the july and august. sorry xx

Hey Darcey
I had a thought for the Theme a Month challenge, how about we make certain months catch up months too? Like for July, say the theme was blue books, but we also make it a catch up month for those who wish to read theme books in July they didn’t have the chance to read on the actual months? We could do this every 3 or so months make that month a catch up month as well
Eager to hear your thoughts :)
Also should we add another challenge? Like a readathon or Book count challenge, or even a book bingo?

yeah that sounds like an absolutely wonderful idea, i'll add it to the newsletter for next month! brilliant :))
what would a book count challenge involve?
book bingo could definitely be wonderful, do you find the templates online?

So book count is basically keeping count of how many books you read this year. Sort of like the theme a month challenge where you update your comment by telling us how many books you have read so far. You may also like to link the books you read but that’s optional
Here is 2019’s book count challenge as an example: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
And yes for the bingo I always find templates online and find a photo and upload it. Here is an example: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Let me know if you want to add one or both of these and if you want to lead any of these :) If you are busy, I understand and we can decide to only do one of these and I will lead it and postpone the other challenge for another month you are not too busy :)
Again no pressure at all! We are taking this nice and slow so don't feel rushed to do things if you know you won't be able to handle things. I appreciate all the help you give no matter how big or small <3

I’ve added the poll for next months theme.
I will also fix up the bookshelf and write a list of the chapter threads we need to organise together :)
I’ve also added the discussion leaders format if members want to lead books with us from now on. Add the link below to the newsletter where the discussion roles are written. I’ve also slightly changed it, check it out :) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Does this make sense?

The book count challenge looks good, but would we only count the books we read next month, given we're already half way through the year so we can't really do the entire year? or maybe we can do a book count for the last half of the year (july-december)?
and bingo is always fun, but i can probably only start and run one new challenge this month, so maybe we can start it in august :)

Sounds good! we can do a half year for the book count challenge. Tomorrow I will set up the thread and send you the link to it.
Yes we will make July a catch up month and depending on the poll of what the theme will be for July too
Yep we can start a bingo in August sounds perfect :)

I realised too late that I had added the three chapter threads before I could write up the book count one first :/ now have to wait an hour or so before I can post again.
But just to confirm are you running this challenge or would you like me to? Since whoever is running the challenge will need to add the second comment where the participants are listed and their progressed is updated. Would you like to do this?
I will write the first comment which introduces the challenge and will close the thread and whoever runs the challenge can reopen it and add the second comment. Which is basically adding this:
Participants
(In alphabetical order)

Hey! Sorry I forgot to start doing the chapter threads for Augusts BRs but here they are! Thankfully its not as much as the previous months have been XD
Also for ASBTS, do you think how I have set the chapters are too long? I only split part 2 as it was the longest one, but the rest are under 15 chapters each. Does it look okay?
A Sky Beyond the Storm (AEITA #4)
Part II: The Reaping (XIV - XXIV)
Part II: The Reaping (XXV - XXXIV)
Part III: The Jinn Queen (XXXV - L)
Part IV: The Sher Jinnaat (LI - LXII)

Cinderella is Dead

Ch 7 - 12

no worries haha, you're a blessing, i didn't have time to work out the sets for the buddy reads, so thank you for sorting that out! i'll start filling them in :)
and nope i think that will be fine, it will probably be a pretty intense book, so we probably won't be able to put it down ;). thanks again! looks perfect.
also i'm thinking we finish TRATG (hopefully soon, i promise i'll pick up the pace) and then read TSBTS immediately after, finish that, and then continue with Iron Gold? that way we can finish the AEITA series and then fully concentrate on Red Rising for these last two (published) books! thoughts?

I was actually going to suggest the same thing hahah! Yes keen to finish AEITA series, especially since Iron Gold is like starting a completely new trilogy. I am so nervous to read ASBTS!

The Bronzed Beasts comes out this month, which is book #3 in the The Gilded Wolves series!! i know we're super swamped with Red Rising, but when we (or I, really) have some free time (probably in a couple months haha) we should definitely buddy read that together and finish off the series!! i'll probably have to read our discussion of book #2 to remember what happened haha, but i remember it was good ;).

hey Kare, can i totally abuse my rights as a mod and either make new threads for a buddy read i want to do with a friend, or change the threads of The Holdout and adapt them to the buddy read we want to do? The Holdout just isn't very active, and i figured it would be quicker to change those threads than make a whole set of new ones (because we can only post 3 at a time). but all good if you'd prefer me to do my buddy read in another group, or make completely new threads! it's just me abusing my position haha, sorry xx

You are an absolute gem! I really don’t appreciate you enough!!!!!
I have been so busy this weekend, which is a really good thing since with this lockdown it has been getting quite boring. But now things are looking well for us and hopefully we will be out of lockdown really soon!
On that note, I hope things are going well for you in Melbourne :( It must suck for you that you have to go back on online learning again especially with your exams coming up. I wish you all the best and I know you will do amazing :) xxx
Thank you for doing the threads! I have to say I am confused with the first thread? Since there were two parts to it in one thread? I hope it does make sense when we read it though.
I shall finish the Dark Age threads for you and help you out with the other threads asap too.

You are an absolute gem! I really don’t appreciate you enough!!!!
aw it's no problem at all!! usually you sort out chapter threads, so i'm happy to help this month!
I have been so busy this weekend, which is a really good thing since with this lockdown it has been getting quite boring. But now things are looking well for us and hopefully we will be out of lockdown really soon!
glad things are finally going back to normal over there and you're coming out of lockdown, that's super exciting!! i've been hearing bits and pieces about your case numbers and you've definitely gone down, so i hope you won't ever have to go back into lockdown again❤. now i just hope the same happens for us!
On that note, I hope things are going well for you in Melbourne :( It must suck for you that you have to go back on online learning again especially with your exams coming up. I wish you all the best and I know you will do amazing :) xxx
aw thank you karen, it definitely does suck a bit and i'm a little stressed out about exams, but hopefully all goes well! thank you very much, i wish i had that much faith in myself haha xx

actually that's for the second thread, but yeah... i was looking at the books and the parts really weren't working out well, they were both too long to be one part and too short to be split into two! i'm hoping it makes sense to read chapters 14-26, and hopefully we can just ignore the parts this one time. sorry, it's a little messy!
and thank you for all your help❤

Hey Darcey,
I am back from my reading slump/holiday season fever! So sorry I've been out of the loop with the group and I thank you for your continuing support during that time.
I figured we will continue to do the two challenges Book Count and Theme a Month. It did help us read last year. Hopefully I will be able to finish the theme challenge this year XD
So, if it's okay with you to continue leading the book count challenge? I have made both challenges but the book count one is still closed for you to add the second comment for participation.
I know with your studies and my work we may not be able to add another challenge for us to lead but I will try to at least a fun event or activity just to spice things up, like a bingo or scavenger hunt or something.
Based on the poll for feb, the three books are Bronzed Beast, From dust a flame and There's someone inside your house.
I will have the chapters up for us to fill in very soon.
Thank you so much for your undeserving patience, truly I appreciate all that you do for me :)

heya Karen! no problem at all, glad you're back :)) yep your plans with the challenges sound good! i've added the participation comment and reopened the book count challenge, i'm definitely fine with running that.
ahh yeah it would be so fun to start something else, let me know what activity you'd most like to start and we'll work something out! bingo is always fun, but yes there are heaps of different options.
thanks so much for setting up chapter threads! xx

Thanks heaps Darcey :)
I was looking through the old threads on this group and came across this Book to Screen Challenge
This could be a nice easy start to do. I figured we could follow the same layout Aqsa did and work from there.
I do like bingo too but we have done that a lot recently, maybe starting something we haven't done in years would help us all catch up on books and movies/tv shows we've all wanted to do.
Do you think a month is plenty of time, or should we consider doing the challenge for longer?
I'm trying to google other challenges we would do this year but not getting any results, except reading challenges and themes to read, which we are already doing. Can you also have a look and see if you come across any challenge we could do?
Thanks again x

I have a challenge idea! This one is like a yearly challenge, so I think we will keep it open for the whole year, but unlike the theme challenge where we choose the themes each month, we get to read books that are set in specific decades (e.g. 1920s/1940s etc.) for the whole year.
And whoever wants to do the challenge can set their own pace of how many books they wish to read for each decade or pick the amount of decades they wish to read on. The decades are from 1910s up until 2010s and there is also a spanning multiple decades theme too. I got the idea from this https://bookgirlsguide.com/decades/ website. They also provide book lists in each decade if people need help of want to read for each decade.
I like this idea instead of forcing people to do it monthly, they get to decide if they want to do it monthly or not; read one book or multiple books for one decade; or read about only 2 decades instead of all 12. Its much more relaxed and less pressure on us too since I will only be updating their progress and not reminding people every month what the decade to read on (plus I tend to forget to remind them for the theme one!)
I hope it makes sense! If you have questions let me know and I will try to explain it further haha!
If we're good I will set this up today and from Feb 1 I'll open it and update it when people complete it

Oh I have a few ideas for this year which I will show you later but since it's Valentine's Day we can make february reading romance books? Like the decades one but this time with all different types of romance genres readers can read for that month, like historical romance, paranormal romance, contemporary romance etc.
Thoughts?

What do you think?"
kare this looks absolutely amazing!! i love this idea so much!! we should definitely do it, it sounds superb, and i read the thread and it all makes perfect sense. i love the list of recommendations as well!
plus The Diviners is set during the 1920's ;)) so we'll be able to tick that decade off!
when do you want to start the challenge and announce it?
