Sabrina | 3 comments I think I read this book in the mid 90s, possibly 1995.

The MC is a young girl who ends up in a magical land where it turns out she’s the long lost cousin of the prince. He’s on a quest to save a princess who is locked away in a glass or ice tower?
The princess is spoiled and at one point there’s a “beast” she asks the prince to vanquish. The MC recognizes it as a brontosaurus(?) and tells the prince not to kill it but he does for the princess then feels bad about it because he realizes it was harmless.

The girl and the prince are like 2nd cousins and look similar enough that at one point when they’re separated, the girl cuts her hair and she looks almost exactly like him.
There’s some kind of sea captain involved in this too. I think he rescues her or something.

It’s a weird book cuz she lives there for a long time and at one point she and the prince are falling in love but after he kisses her (which was hella weird cuz, again, they’re cousins) she ends up back in her world, unable to get back.

It was part 1 of a duo, I think cuz I also read the sequel. This book has been haunting me for years cuz it was so weird. Please help!

Sabrina, is this book for kids, teens or adults?

How does the girl get transported to the magical land? Where was she at the time?

Which details (not spoilers) can we add to the header? For example: girl is prince's long lost (second) cousin, princess is spoiled, etc.?

I'm not 100% on how she was transported. I think she was exploring the old ruins of a house or something. Maybe she found a rock or shard of something? I just remember when she came back she dug around in a pile for the thing that transported her and she couldn’t find it so she had to go home to relatives that she didn’t get along with.

Genesistrine | 575 comments Maybe Joyce Ballou Gregorian's Tredana trilogy, beginning with The Broken Citadel?

The heroine, Sibby/Sibyl is 10 years older in each book; the first one's when she's 10 and she gets involved in Prince Leron's quest to rescue Princess Dastra, in the 2nd she comes back to Tredana with her annoying boyfriend and ends up having a daughter by Leron, and in the 3rd she comes back with no memory, joins the local equivalent of the Huns and conquers the country.

Genesistrine | 575 comments You were lucky; I ran across my copies recently and was wondering why there don't seem to be any ebook versions so they were on my mind!
