I read this book in 2018 after I checked it out from my local library but I'm not super confident on many details of the plot. I remember towards the beginning aforementioned wizard turns a piece of paper into a bird to impress the kid. We get the impression that the kid has seen this guy multiple times before. The wizard is from another dimension or world and at the end of the book turns another wizard there to stone and runs away. The cover of the book was like sky blue

The illustrations weren't too complicated. The book was likely written for a younger audience. I don't really remember much else aside from the wizard was wearing orange and red robes I think?
