Couldn't figure out what to do on the "plans" tab so I just put in done under the book and the prompt. What has happened to the books from Plans that were completed? I thought we were going highlight them or put them at the front or something so we could move things around if needed."

Edie
In the Plans tab, completed books are moved to the very right (to the left of previously completed books), with highlighting of their title and applied prompt. (I highlighted and moved Coraline.)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments Guys. If we use our wildcards for the remaining prompts we're finished!!!!
We have 15 remaining prompts and 17 wildcards.

I just asked in the main thread: Hi Emily. If we use our wildcards, we're actually finished. Woohooo!!! Go Sunflowers!
Can we look forward to more prompts, and can we save some of our wildcards for that?

Depending on the answer to this, let's regroup and talk strategy :)

Eek y'all are way ahead of all of the other teams... I would see what you can accomplish without Wild Cards, and if you need prompts after that, we will get some for you!

Feels good, doesn't it?

So, let's keep reading what we've got going on, but no-one should force themselves through prompts that don't suit them, since we have all those wildcards.

message 105: by Sue (new)

Sue S | 557 comments Yay for us! I should finish both a print and an audiobook in the next 24 hours - the way we're going we won't even need any wild cards!

message 106: by RachelG. (last edited Feb 17, 2021 06:02AM) (new)

RachelG. I have finished Tragedy at Piddleton Hotel and will add it to the spreadsheet where it will fit next. I should finish Game Changers: The Unsung Heroines of Sports History later today and then I am starting The Last Bookaneer: A Novel for a book that starts with L.

Sounds like a good idea - with the rate we are reading and the books on the planning sheet, we should be able to fill all of the prompts without using wildcard.

I'm reading two short books - just over 200 pages each - at the moment which both work for prompts we still need. I'll look again at the spreadsheet when I've finished them to work out what to pick up next.

I agree. Why use wildcards where there are days of reading left to go...and we are crushing this. I would be happy to see some additional prompts. I should finish The Turner House today. Starting The Kurdish Bike which I could use for the two matching titles if I move The Case of the Missing Marquess which also has a bike on the cover. It shouldn't be hard to find a replacement... book in which a romantic love story is not featured. I should be able to finish The Kurdish Bike in the next few days.

Great Job Team Sunflower! I think I am one of the slow readers on the team and I might be a little slower over the next few days but will try to keep up the best I can! I thankfully have done a good job of picking shorter books for the read-a-thon so finishing more than I would have expected.

message 111: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments @Edie, I'm finished with Ship of Destiny in like half an hour. I then have two books for the similar cover (dragons), so unless your bike books don't work elsewhere I'll put them there if that's alright with you?

@Samantha, we're all contributing what we can :)

message 112: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments I finished The Ship of Destiny, oh so good!
I'll put it for the two similar covers for the time being.
Happy reading!

message 113: by oshizu (new)

oshizu | 96 comments I just finished Dorothy Dunnett's historical fiction The Spring of the Ram, which I've applied to the "fresh starts" prompt.

I'm not sure what to read next because I hadn't anticipated finishing so many books for this readathon already.

Team Sunflower is really rocking! I'm so glad to be on this team for my first readathon. :D

message 114: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1147 comments @Johanne ...Looks like you have the two similar covers covered. I can find somewhere to put The Kurdish Bike.

message 115: by oshizu (last edited Feb 17, 2021 05:51PM) (new)

oshizu | 96 comments Not to be counting our chickens or anything, but I'm super curious what our additional prompts will be. 🐔🐔🐱

message 116: by Sue (new)

Sue S | 557 comments I have just added my two books completed, one for the friendship theme, and one for the warm and fuzzy - we are getting so close!

message 117: by Edie (last edited Feb 17, 2021 08:14PM) (new)

Edie | 1147 comments I finished The Turner House and plugged into two books one written by a female. What I have left to read won't fit any of the remaining prompts, but I will keep reading.

Bring on some more prompts!

message 118: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments Oh wow! Awesome!
Until we hopefully get more prompts I suggest we put finished books that don't fit in a reserve for later use. I've asked Emily for a final say in this, but I think she'll say yes.
I have the rest of the readathon off work (yay!) but today we're going to my mum's, so won't be reading until tonight.
Happy reading!

Oh no, I don't think any of the books I had ready to read match any of these, so I'm just going to read and hope something relevant happens... I am currently reading Bright Swallow: Making choices in Mao’s China - a memoir about a girl who survives the Chinese Cultural Revolution and moves to Australia. I hope she spent time in a restaurant and/or went on a date!

message 122: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments @Sue, if not we'll have more wildcards :)

message 123: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. I have 40% of The Last Bookaneer read and expect to finish it after work this afternoon. After today I have the rest of the readathon off and hope to get lots of books read.

I had been planning to read Opium and Absinthe by Lydia Kang next before I saw the new prompts and am glad it will fit for flowers on the cover. I also have books that will fit some of the remaining prompts except YA Rom-Com and LGBTQIA+ love story.

message 124: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 384 comments I've added the book I've just finished to one of the new prompts - MC goes on a date - as we need five books for this prompt, and it is a prompt we might find hard to allocate books to until we have actually read the books.

Of the new prompts, the cover one should be easy to complete, but I'll have a look and see if I can find any lists that will tell us which books might fulfil the other two prompts. If I find any, I'll post them in this thread.

message 125: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 384 comments So here are a few shelves that might be helpful to look at to see if you have any books on your TBRs that fit either the prompt relating to food / restaurants or dating.

Five books related to food, cooking, restaurants, or culinary hobbies:

Cooking - https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

message 126: by Kat (new)

Kat | 567 comments The books I assigned to coming of age and one person on the cover could be moved to one of the new prompts if someone else is reading something that would work for those.

message 127: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1147 comments Kat Thr Kurdish Bike which I am reading has one person on the cover, so you could move it.

message 128: by Kat (new)

Kat | 567 comments I've moved it out so that spots clear now.

message 129: by oshizu (last edited Feb 18, 2021 11:26AM) (new)

oshizu | 96 comments I am all over the culinary prompt! It is one of my favorite themes and I have 3+ Kindle books which I'd put off reading this month because they didn't fit our initial prompts. :D
I'd started a book for the 2nd "Two LGBTQIA+ books featuring a love story" prompt, but I'm switching to a chef book now.

Anyway I'll be starting my cozy mystery about a White House chef now.

message 130: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments I'm still reading Leah in the offbeat that fit several of the old prompts AND they go out to eat and I believe there are going to be dates.

message 131: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. @Johanne Should I put The Last Bookaneer in title starts with L or in male author and leave L for you?

message 132: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments @Rachel, put it in title starts with L. I believe Leah it fits ALL the remaining prompts except male author, which is not going to be a hardship to fill, so no problems there.

message 133: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. Sounds good. I have about an hour of reading left to finish the book

One of my all time favorite books was her The Night Circus. I like The Starless Sea, but no where near as much as Night Circus.

message 135: by oshizu (last edited Feb 18, 2021 06:40PM) (new)

oshizu | 96 comments I finished my first book for the culinary prompt and will probably be able to finish another Mastering the Art of Japanese Home Cooking, written byy an Iron Chef star.

I'd started reading a second book "LGBTQIA+ books featuring a love story" prompt, but would rather not read this book now if anyone else plans to fill that prompt. (But it does also fill the new "date" prompt.)

Go Team Sunflower!

Before I forget, congratulations to Denmark's handball team for emerging victorious from the recent World Championship! :)

message 137: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments Thanks Oshizu :) Did you watch the finals? And you follow Japan's team I guess?

On to books:
Leah etc fits the lgbtq+ with a love story. I only have around 70 pages left in it. It's also a YA rom com.
Is anyone else actively reading any of those? It seems both those prompts are needed.

message 138: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments I scrolled through my tbr and found a short book with flowers on it, that's also available as audio and ebook through my library, yay! It's lyrical prose and just what I need, after my trip with Leah and teenage angst. It's not bad, it's just ... sometimes I feel I'm not entirely the target group when reading YA. I'm a children's and youth librarian so I do read YA quite a lot.

Johanne & Alicia
My LGBTQIA+ book (A Dark Horse) does not fit the YA rom-com prompt, so maybe Leah works best for the latter prompt?

I will go ahead and finish A Dark Horse next.
If someone else plans to do the LGBTQIA prompt (Alicia & The Starless Sea?), I can use A Dark Horse for the new date prompt.

message 140: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments Sounds like a plan :) and then we can move around if necessary.

message 141: by Kat (new)

Kat | 567 comments I got Leah on the Offbeat onto my phone but just can't bring myself to start it. I've been meaning to read it for awhile and saw how many prompts it worked for. I might try something else and then come back to it at the weekend. I usually adore YA but seem to be struggling with it a bit more at the moment. I think with everything going on in the world it just seems a bit trivial.

message 142: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments @Yeah, that's it Kat. It's hard to get really involved in teenage confusion, crushes and prom-fever, when there are bigger problems and you're a 45-year old who didn't even get the prom thing in the first place, coming from a completely different school system and youth culture. But it's not badly written and I don't diminish teenage angst, just hard to personally absorb myself in the story.

message 143: by Johanne (last edited Feb 19, 2021 04:44AM) (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments I finished now and put it for YA rom com.

message 144: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. I would love to try and complete all the prompts without using wild cards if we can and it seems like we can do this!

message 145: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1585 comments I finished The Midnight Library and put it under Male Author for now. I have other books I was planing on reading but not sure the will fit the new prompts so going to see what else I can find.

message 146: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1585 comments Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

This takes place in a cafe that may only serve coffee is that restaurant enough? Also the chairs have flowers on them - would those count?

message 147: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments I'd say yes to both those, at least the flowers. It says 'Five books related to food, cooking, restaurants, or culinary hobbies' which seem rather broad. I haven't read the book, my guess is it will fit.

I found another short book with flowers on the cover - this one was on the back row of my doublestacked tbr shelf ;)

message 148: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments ... and I agree, it would be really cool to fill all the prompts without using wildcards.
I mean, we have a whole weekend, right?

Personally, I would put your book in the flowers prompt, since the flowers on the chair totally count.
I've been wanting to read that book, Samantha. Did you enjoy it?

Okay, I'm off to finish A Dark Horse will hopefully finish it today.

Johanne & Kat
I know exactly what you mean about YA romance. I must have spent at least an hour each, searching books lists for the YA rom-com and enemies-to-lovers prompts. Ultimately, I never found anything I could bring myself to read.
