2021 Read-a-Thon #1: Team Daisy
Hey Team Daisy! (I love daisies they are such a cheery flower)I'm currently reading The Gilded Ones and will certainly have more than 100 pages left when the readathon starts so I've got "one in the title" covered. I'll add my TBR options to the planning tab once I'm done with work.

I'm reading The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer right now. It's been perfectly mindless for me so I'm speeding through it. Not sure what I will have left of it in the morning.
I also am working through Anne of Green Gables. I thought it would be a quick read but is actually taking me a while. I think it has themes related to self-love and counts as "warm and fuzzy". It's also a fresh start, the character moves to a new home, has one person on the cover, is written by a female, and has a theme of friendship.

Hello all! Excited for team Daisy and to read with you all this week.I put my current book (that I'll still have 100 pages left of tomorrow) in the planning tab to give an example. Some books will fit perfectly for one prompt, and others will fit multiple. There are a few broad ones for hard to fit books as well.
One prompt that needs some planning is the 2 matching covers, so I think we should post bookcovers that we're planning to read. I haven't moved out of bed to my computer yet (It's 8am here and I'm not a morning person), so I'll probably do that as a work break later this morning.

Hello all! I'm Deborah of message 13! :) I have a lot of reading I really need to get done in the next week so I'm happy to have this extra motivation!I'm in and out for a bit today but will add to the spreadsheet when I can.
One idea for the matching covers is that I am planning to read Sapphire Blueand Emerald Green. The first one I'll definitely finish Saturday as I have about 150 pages left and the second I'll probably finish over the weekend. They do coordinate well enough to 'match' in my opinion given that they're in the same series. They'd work for other prompts too, but it might be an easy way to deal with the match.
Others I'm for sure finishing soon: Betty Crimson Hearts.

Not sure if I'll try to strategize which fit best or just read what I want and fit it in later. Some of these also depend on when I get to the library! (It's only open 3 days a week for pick up, but a pile is sitting there waiting for me).

Are we thinking the word "hearts" on a cover works for the hearts on the cover? I have less than 150 pages in Crimson Hearts and it's a quick read I'll finish tomorrow.
I think hearts on cover will be an easy fill. Does Crimson Hearts not fit anything else?

I was originally thinking hearts on cover might be a bit tough, which is why I got one of my books, but I agree it Ellie, it will likely be easy.
I think the word "hearts" on the cover would count and it can be an option.

I am reading the Orphan's Tale- written by a woman, contains a P, involves travel. The girl is 16 so could probably be considered a coming of age story. And definitely a friendship theme.

Hi Barbara! Feel free to throw out any questions. If you want to check out the team spreadsheet, it is linked at the top of this page. There's a tracking tab where we will list pages read and hours listened per day as well as list the books we use for prompts. There's also a planning tab where people are marking the possibilities that work for their books. In the past, I've found some people use/don't use the planning tab, so it is up to you, but it can be useful if people are deciding books based on open prompts (there are already tons of columns filled in, so seems like people are generally using it).
Even if books don't fit prompts, they still count towards page numbers or hours (only one, if you are listening to an audiobook, it can count for hours or converted pages but not both).
As far as your current reading, whatever you want to do works for us! If you have more than 100 pages left when you start reading Saturday morning, they can be used for a prompt. If not, they still count for pages/hours. We currently don't have any books marked as possibilities for the elderly character prompt, so they could both be slotted in there!
I hope that wasn't overly wordy!!
If anyone isn't using the spreadsheet and wants me (or someone else) to update page/hour totals or when a book is used for a prompt, feel free to update us here and let us know that.

We can count books you’re already reading as long as they have 100 pages left. If not, we could still count the pages read, just not towards the specific prompts.

Unfortunately I won't be able to use one of the books, since there are only 25 pages left.How long does this challenge last? I tried to update the spreadsheet but I am lost, I am sorry. Could you add details about The Color Purple and Little Women? I think both have elderly characters and are my next reading.

The event runs from when you wake up on the 13th to when you go to bed on the 21st.
I don't know very much about 2 of the middle years books I will be reading for school. They might slide in somewhere easily.

The planning tab isn't 100% accurate since not all books are there (I've only put one in!) and some don't end up being read. It's also sometimes hard to figure out a prompt until after you've read the book.
Don't stress about it though, we'll figure it out as we go! Main goals are to read books and have fun doing it.
I actually need to read The Color Purple this week too. I left it off my initial list but as I'm helping host a buddy read discussion for it next weekend, I do kind of need to read it! :) That would be another option for matching covers too I suppose if we have two of the same book!

I didn't end up finishing The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer yesterday and have over 100 pages left so I'll be starting off with that one.
Here's all the covers for my planned options:
I could use Mara Dyer and Anxious People for the two books with two people on the cover. Which might make the most sense since I plan on those being my first two books.

OK, just to be clear, I can count the pages AND the book?So if I read a 236 page book about someone with a pet, I count the 236 pages and mark off the prompt?
Good morning Daisies! Well, we did get some good snow overnight in Seattle, so I'll spend less of the day reading than originally planned because the midwesterner in me needs to go ski in the streets and play in the snow. I spent some time reading this morning though, and finished the last ~2 hours of Parable of the Sower and slotted it into 4 books with a P in the title. I couldn't figure out anywhere else for it other than one male/one female and one person on the cover, both of which are easy.
Hoping to also finish Aftershocks today and I've started You Should See Me in a Crown on audio.

Finished Octavia's Brood: Science Fiction Stories from Social Justice Movements by Adrienne Maree Brown (Editor/Contributor), Walidah Imarisha (Editor/Contributor),Sheree Renee Thomas (Foreword). I used it for a single book prompt, a book with an inspiring title or cover. This worked best but always feel free to slot it elsewhere if some other prompt is better.
I finished French Exit and used it for one of the pet prompts. Hope you all don't mind but I shaded the completed prompts for an easier visual.

Finished Thin Air: A Ghost Story, added it to "three books in which a romantic love story is not featured".
Ugg! My afternoon did NOT go as planned. My chest freezer, which is only about 6 months old, is going out. So I had to pack food up to move to another freezer. And I noticed some stuff had thawed, so I had to brown 3 pounds of ground beef and fix some other stuff for dinner so nothing went bad. Anyway, I will get back to reading when I can!

Hope your weekend gets to be relaxing soon!I just finished Sapphire Blue and slated it in for one of the matching cover slots since I plan to read the third book in the series this weekend too. It's a bit longer than this one was, but they're a quick read. They would work for multiple other prompts too, so if we wind up with another matched sets we can always move them around.
I finished a graphic novel that wasn't long enough to count for anything (but will for pages) and now I'm going to finish off Crimson Hearts which would work for hearts on cover, friendship theme or debut author.

I moved my book to the appropriate spot and froze the top row for easier reference now that the bottom part of the tracking tab is changed. I'm getting back to reading for the night now and should have some decent time in before I fall into bed. I ended up hanging out in the snow for about 5 hours today, so am pretty tired.
I also did some organizing of the tracking tab. Books that have been fit into a prompt have been moved to the right and their selections no longer count in the # of options column, which might help with choosing prompts for new books.
Prompts that are completely done are shaded. I wasn't sure of a good way of showing which prompts are partially completed, we could shade a different color (i.e. light blue - started, darker blue or gray - complete), but I wasn't sure if that might get confusing.

I just relooked at the planning tab and noticed a couple of duplicates, I fixed that.
