Hello, Team Daisy!

This week, you will be working together to complete a series of prompts. While some prompts only require one single book, others will require 2 or 3 or 4!

Use your spreadsheet to track which prompts you've completed, as well as any Wild Cards you've earned. Please place only completed books on the Tracking tab, and use the Planning tab for planning purposes.

*Wild Cards: For every 1000 pages read or 15 hours of audio listened, you will earned one Wild Card, which can be used in the place of one book. Your spreadsheet will track how many Wild Cards you've earned and used.

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Hey Team Daisy! (I love daisies they are such a cheery flower)

I'm currently reading The Gilded Ones and will certainly have more than 100 pages left when the readathon starts so I've got "one in the title" covered. I'll add my TBR options to the planning tab once I'm done with work.

I agree, Ellie! It's a great one to make me look forward to spring.

I'm reading The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer right now. It's been perfectly mindless for me so I'm speeding through it. Not sure what I will have left of it in the morning.

I also am working through Anne of Green Gables. I thought it would be a quick read but is actually taking me a while. I think it has themes related to self-love and counts as "warm and fuzzy". It's also a fresh start, the character moves to a new home, has one person on the cover, is written by a female, and has a theme of friendship.

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments Hello Team Daisy, I'm so excited to be a part of this team.
I'm currently reading, Octavia's Brood: Science Fiction Stories from Social Justice Movements. It's an anthology. I will have over 100 pages left Saturday morning. Not sure where it fits so will need help with that.

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Hello all! Excited for team Daisy and to read with you all this week.

I put my current book (that I'll still have 100 pages left of tomorrow) in the planning tab to give an example. Some books will fit perfectly for one prompt, and others will fit multiple. There are a few broad ones for hard to fit books as well.

One prompt that needs some planning is the 2 matching covers, so I think we should post bookcovers that we're planning to read. I haven't moved out of bed to my computer yet (It's 8am here and I'm not a morning person), so I'll probably do that as a work break later this morning.

I've not read it but does it fit "in which a romantic love story is not featured"?

message 7: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments I have a massive owned TBR so I can switch books round a bit, but my initial readathon TBR is:

The Gilded Ones (Deathless, #1) by Namina Forna Rescue Me by Sarra Manning Fireheart Tiger by Aliette de Bodard Fangirl, Vol. 1 The Manga by Sam Maggs Across the Green Grass Fields (Wayward Children, #6) by Seanan McGuire A Stranger in Town (Rockton Book 6) by Kelley Armstrong The Cousins by Karen M. McManus Love Is for Losers by Wibke Brueggemann

And maybe The Project, I'm listening on audio with 3 hours left so might have enough left over to qualify it...
The Project by Courtney Summers

message 8: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Hey all! Excite to read with you all.

My current books which will still have 100 pages on Saturday are:
The Burning God (The Poppy War, #3) by R.F. Kuang French Exit by Patrick deWitt
The first counts for only one person on the cover and the second involves a pet cat. I will add to the spreadsheet.

Next will probably be:
Anxious People by Fredrik Backman and The Purpose of Power How We Come Together When We Fall Apart by Alicia Garza
They both have P's.

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments Hello all! I'm Deborah of message 13! :) I have a lot of reading I really need to get done in the next week so I'm happy to have this extra motivation!

I'm in and out for a bit today but will add to the spreadsheet when I can.

One idea for the matching covers is that I am planning to read Sapphire Blueand Emerald Green. The first one I'll definitely finish Saturday as I have about 150 pages left and the second I'll probably finish over the weekend. They do coordinate well enough to 'match' in my opinion given that they're in the same series. They'd work for other prompts too, but it might be an easy way to deal with the match.

Sapphire Blue (Precious Stone Trilogy, #2) by Kerstin Gier Emerald Green (Precious Stone Trilogy, #3) by Kerstin Gier

Others I'm for sure finishing soon: Betty Crimson Hearts.

Others I'll be reading next week: This Is My AmericaHow Long 'til Black Future Month?Surviving SavannahA Song of Wraiths and Ruin

Betty by Tiffany McDaniel Crimson Hearts by Nicole Reeves How Long 'til Black Future Month? by N.K. Jemisin Surviving Savannah by Patti Callahan A Song of Wraiths and Ruin (A Song of Wraiths and Ruin, #1) by Roseanne A. Brown

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Not sure what I'll be reading this week.

Will be finishing up Aftershocks, but will probably finish my audiobook today so will be starting new there.

Audiobooks I currently have:
Meaty
Take a Hint, Dani Brown
You Should See Me in a Crown

Some physical books I'm considering:
Happiness, Like Water
Citizen: An American Lyric
Leaving Atlanta
Everything Inside or How to Love a Jamaican
Notes from a Young Black Chef: A Memoir

Not sure if I'll try to strategize which fit best or just read what I want and fit it in later. Some of these also depend on when I get to the library! (It's only open 3 days a week for pick up, but a pile is sitting there waiting for me).

Aftershocks by Nadia Owusu Meaty by Samantha Irby Take a Hint, Dani Brown (The Brown Sisters, #2) by Talia Hibbert You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson Happiness, Like Water by Chinelo Okparanta Citizen An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine Leaving Atlanta by Tayari Jones Everything Inside by Edwidge Danticat How to Love a Jamaican by Alexia Arthurs Notes from a Young Black Chef A Memoir by Kwame Onwuachi

(I just realized how colorful this selection is!)

I have less than 150 pages in Crimson Hearts and it's a quick read I'll finish tomorrow.

I was originally thinking hearts on cover might be a bit tough, which is why I got one of my books, but I agree it Ellie, it will likely be easy.

I think the word "hearts" on the cover would count and it can be an option.

Hi Barbara and the rest of the Daisies!
This looks like so much fun!
Barbara- The basic idea is to read as much as possible for the next week. Post in this thread what you are reading and we can help figure out where to put it.

I am reading the Orphan's Tale- written by a woman, contains a P, involves travel. The girl is 16 so could probably be considered a coming of age story. And definitely a friendship theme.

Not sure what I will read after that.

The Orphan's Tale by Pam Jenoff

Sarah (prairielily) | 177 comments Hi Team!
I am Sarah (message 56), I didn't think to check for other Sarahs. There are always multiple.
I have 3 books to read for school (I'm a teacher) this week.
Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu Nightfall by Jake Halpern Refugee by Alan Gratz
I am finishing Thin Air by Michelle Paver this weekend.
I hope to start Yellow Wife by Sadeqa Johnson
I will look through the planning tab and see what is open. I would like to read some sort of thriller this week too.
Little Disasters by Sarah Vaughan
I should mention that we have no school next week and I need to start those books as literature circles on Feb 22! I don't normally read quite this much.

Too Much and Never Enough How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man by Mary L. Trump Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

And both have elderly people in it! What do you think?

Hi Barbara! Feel free to throw out any questions. If you want to check out the team spreadsheet, it is linked at the top of this page. There's a tracking tab where we will list pages read and hours listened per day as well as list the books we use for prompts. There's also a planning tab where people are marking the possibilities that work for their books. In the past, I've found some people use/don't use the planning tab, so it is up to you, but it can be useful if people are deciding books based on open prompts (there are already tons of columns filled in, so seems like people are generally using it).

Even if books don't fit prompts, they still count towards page numbers or hours (only one, if you are listening to an audiobook, it can count for hours or converted pages but not both).

As far as your current reading, whatever you want to do works for us! If you have more than 100 pages left when you start reading Saturday morning, they can be used for a prompt. If not, they still count for pages/hours. We currently don't have any books marked as possibilities for the elderly character prompt, so they could both be slotted in there!

I hope that wasn't overly wordy!!

message 23: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments If anyone isn't using the spreadsheet and wants me (or someone else) to update page/hour totals or when a book is used for a prompt, feel free to update us here and let us know that.

We can count books you’re already reading as long as they have 100 pages left. If not, we could still count the pages read, just not towards the specific prompts.

I added them both to the planning tab! If someone else ends up slotting in something for this prompt, we can try to find a new category when you finish. The planning tab isn't 100% accurate since not all books are there (I've only put one in!) and some don't end up being read. It's also sometimes hard to figure out a prompt until after you've read the book.

Don't stress about it though, we'll figure it out as we go! Main goals are to read books and have fun doing it.

message 31: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I actually need to read The Color Purple this week too. I left it off my initial list but as I'm helping host a buddy read discussion for it next weekend, I do kind of need to read it! :) That would be another option for matching covers too I suppose if we have two of the same book!

Good morning, everyone!

I didn't end up finishing The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer yesterday and have over 100 pages left so I'll be starting off with that one.

Here's all the covers for my planned options:
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #1) by Michelle Hodkin Anxious People by Fredrik Backman The Midnight Library by Matt Haig The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio The Project by Courtney Summers The Cousins by Karen M. McManus The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid The Searcher by Tana French

I could use Mara Dyer and Anxious People for the two books with two people on the cover. Which might make the most sense since I plan on those being my first two books.

message 35: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments Good morning Daisies!

I think I'll be wrapping up Sapphire Blue and probably Crimson Hearts today too - both have about 150ish pages left in them and they're quick reads!

message 36: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (prairielily) | 177 comments OK, just to be clear, I can count the pages AND the book?
So if I read a 236 page book about someone with a pet, I count the 236 pages and mark off the prompt?

message 37: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Good morning Daisies! Well, we did get some good snow overnight in Seattle, so I'll spend less of the day reading than originally planned because the midwesterner in me needs to go ski in the streets and play in the snow.

I spent some time reading this morning though, and finished the last ~2 hours of Parable of the Sower and slotted it into 4 books with a P in the title. I couldn't figure out anywhere else for it other than one male/one female and one person on the cover, both of which are easy.

Hoping to also finish Aftershocks today and I've started You Should See Me in a Crown on audio.

And I noticed some stuff had thawed, so I had to brown 3 pounds of ground beef and fix some other stuff for dinner so nothing went bad.
Anyway, I will get back to reading when I can!

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments Oh what a pain Kathy Jo! Hope your weekend gets to be relaxing soon!

I just finished Sapphire Blue and slated it in for one of the matching cover slots since I plan to read the third book in the series this weekend too. It's a bit longer than this one was, but they're a quick read. They would work for multiple other prompts too, so if we wind up with another matched sets we can always move them around.

Sapphire Blue (Precious Stone Trilogy, #2) by Kerstin Gier Emerald Green (Precious Stone Trilogy, #3) by Kerstin Gier

I finished a graphic novel that wasn't long enough to count for anything (but will for pages) and now I'm going to finish off Crimson Hearts which would work for hearts on cover, friendship theme or debut author.

message 48: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I moved my book to the appropriate spot and froze the top row for easier reference now that the bottom part of the tracking tab is changed.

I'm getting back to reading for the night now and should have some decent time in before I fall into bed. I ended up hanging out in the snow for about 5 hours today, so am pretty tired.

message 49: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I also did some organizing of the tracking tab.

Books that have been fit into a prompt have been moved to the right and their selections no longer count in the # of options column, which might help with choosing prompts for new books.

Prompts that are completely done are shaded. I wasn't sure of a good way of showing which prompts are partially completed, we could shade a different color (i.e. light blue - started, darker blue or gray - complete), but I wasn't sure if that might get confusing.

Huge apologies in advance if I accidentally deleted anyone's column. Crossing my fingers it didn't happen.
