FAQs
Q: Can I use a book I started before the Read-a-Thon?
A: A book can be used to fulfill a prompt if you have 100+ pages (or 1.5+ audiobook hours) remaining when the Read-a-Thon begins. If you have less pages/hours, you can still count those as pages read or hours listened, but you cannot use that book to fulfill a prompt.
Q: Can I use picture books/graphic novels/etc?
A: A book must have at least 200 pages if it has illustrations on a majority of pages in order to count for a prompt fulfilled, but you can always use those shorter books for pages read.
Q: Can I use a book for more than one prompt?
A: Each book that a member reads counts for only one prompt, but multiple team members can read the same book. (For example, four team members can use The House in the Cerulean Sea for a book with a pet prompt, but one member cannot read that book and count it for multiple prompts.)
Q: Do the prompts have to be completed in any order?
A: No, you can complete the prompts in whichever order you'd like!
Q: Can one member read multiple books for the same prompt?
A: Yes! This is a team effort -- you are joining together to read books to fill all of the prompts. But if someone reads two books that fill the same prompt (two books featuring pets, for example), you can use both books for that prompt.
Q: Can I ignore "a", "an", and "the" at the beginning of a title?
A: Yep!
Q: How closely related to Shakespeare does a book need to be?
A: Any connection to Shakespeare is fine. Some examples include a book with a character named Juliet, a retelling of a play, a book that has a sonnet in it, a book that mentions Shakespeare... anything that you can justify as a connection works!

Jill wrote: "Do you have to finish a level before moving to the next? For example do you need to finish all the single book prompts before moving to the 2 book prompts?"
Great question! No, you can complete the prompts in any order!
Great question! No, you can complete the prompts in any order!
It is all a team effort, right? That is for a 4-book prompt, 4 different people could each read 1 book that fits the prompt? We will have to coordinate even more than usual!
Yes, the team will work together on all prompts. But if you have a speed reader in the group, then one person can technically read multiple books in a category.

A question:
I'm hoping to read two books for one of the two-book prompts.
How do I indicate that on our team spreadsheet?
(I tried inputting two x's in my tracking column for that prompt, but the "No. of Options" value still shows "1.")

Thanks so much!
And thank you, too, for responding to my previous questions! <3

Two books connected to Shakespeare - how strong does the connection have to be? In the book I'm reading they mention Shakespeare, his works, and cite him in dialogue ('something seems to be rotten in the state of Denmark'). It isn't strongly connected to the plot. Is this enough, or does it have to be a more significant connection?
Three books that span more than 10 years:
Each book must span more than 10 years right?
Any connection to Shakespeare is fine! A book with a character named Juliet, a retelling of a play, a book that has a sonnet in it, a book that mentions Shakespeare... any of that is ok.
And yes, each book needs to span more than 10 years!

It says =ROUNDDOWN((M24+M12)/1000) which sadly means you'd need 1000 hours of audio for a wildcard. I'm happy to correct it but assume the others are also wrong if the same sheet has been copied so wanted to flag!

I added a line at the bottom that counts your completed prompts. Is that what you meant, Johanne?

Can we look forward to more prompts, and can we save some of our wildcards for that?
Eek y'all are way ahead of all of the other teams... I would see what you can accomplish without Wild Cards, and if you need prompts after that, we will get some for you!

Until the God of prompts (yes Emily it's you), hopefully gives us more, can we put the books we finish, that are not the ones being read for said 5, in a reserve to be released in the happy event of more prompts?

When the team gets down to 5 remaining prompts without using Wild Cards, I'll give out the last set of prompts!

Team Rose is ready for the last set of prompts.

Thanks for setting this Up, Emily.
Sincerely, a very pleased captain :D
The theme for this month's Read-a-Thon is LOVE. Before you start rolling your eyes, we are celebrating love in all forms, whether it's romantic love, self-love, friendship, or the love of a furry pet.
HOW IT WORKS
For this team challenge, you will work with your group to read books and check off prompts for your team. There are four levels of prompts, each requiring more books to fulfill. Pages read and audio hours listened will earn you Wild Cards, which you can use to check off some of the more tricky prompts.
THE PROMPTS
Single Book Prompts
For those who are rocking it solo this Valentine's Day
A coming-of-age book
A book with themes related to hope, self-love, or self-respect
A book with an inspiring title or cover
A debut author
A book featuring an activity you consider "self care" (i.e. travel, pets, video games, reading, cooking, etc.)
A book about fresh starts
A travel book
A book where the character moves to a new home
A book with just one person on the cover
A book with the word "one" in the title (can include "someone", "no one", "everyone", etc)
2 Book Prompts
For those of us in love
Two books whose titles start with "L"
Two LGBTQIA+ books featuring a love story
A book written by a male and a book written by a female
Two books featuring elderly characters
Two books with "matching" covers (however you define that)
Two books with two people on the cover
Two books with hearts on the cover
Two books featuring the enemies-turned-lovers trope
Two YA rom-coms
Two books connected to Shakespeare
3 Book Prompts
Grab a friend and share a book
Three books featuring a theme of friendship
Three books that span more than 10 years
Three books in which a romantic love story is not featured
Three books featuring protagonists at different stages of life (one YA, one new parent, one elderly character, for example)
Three books that feature roommates who are not romantically involved
4 Book Prompts
We love our four-legged friends
Four books featuring characters who have pets
Four books that make you feel "warm and fuzzy"
Four books that have the letter "P" in the title
WILD CARDS
For every 1000 pages read or 15 hours of audio listened to, you will earn one Wild Card for your team. These Wild Cards can be used in place of *one* book, fulfilling all of a single-book prompt or part of a multi-book prompt.
THE TEAMS
Teams will be posted on Friday so you can strategize, but we wanted to release the prompts early so you can plan your reading accordingly.
