Hannah Kelly (herfictionalfelicities) | 118 comments I feel like I have seen a book series out there with covers similar to the Veronica Speedwell series somewhere before, but I'm not sure where? They were also a mystery series.

Natasha | 250 comments What about the cover or the plot reminds you of the Veronica Speedwell series? The era? The characters? The types of mysteries solved? The style of the writing?

Hannah Kelly (herfictionalfelicities) | 118 comments The cover. It had an incredibly similar design to it. The plot was also very similar as well I believe. I think the main character was also interested in science, was a very independent woman, etc. She also was I think a sleuth.

Jon Duckworth | 171 comments Based purely on the cover style, how about the Theodora Goss' series of novels about Mary Jekyll?

The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter (The Extraordinary Adventures of the Athena Club, #1) by Theodora Goss

Natasha | 250 comments Also just based on cover similarities, Lynn Messina's Beatrice Hyde-Clare series (first book A Brazen Curiosity)

A Brazen Curiosity (Beatrice Hyde-Clare Mysteries #1) by Lynn Messina

When did you see these books? Was it a new series at that point or were there already many in the series?

Michelle Halber | 9 comments I suspect it is Sherry Thomas' Lady Sherlock series. I think if you enjoy one, you will absolutely like the other.

(trying to upload picture, but not successful). A Study in Scarlet Women is book 1.

I believe it may have been fairly new? At least one book was out, maybe two? I suppose there is a possibility it is a standalone. I'm not positive honestly.

This is very close to the cover style but not the right story.

Hannah Kelly (herfictionalfelicities) | 118 comments I think the young girl was interested in science but I am not certain. I am starting to wonder if somehow I imagined this.

Jon Duckworth | 171 comments If it's a young girl could it, by chance, be the Murder Most Unladylike series by Robin Stevens?

Murder Most Unladylike

Murder Most Unladylike (Murder Most Unladylike Mysteries, #1) by Robin Stevens
Arsenic for Tea (Murder Most Unladylike Mysteries, #2) by Robin Stevens
Death in the Spotlight (Murder Most Unladylike Mysteries, #7) by Robin Stevens

Natasha | 250 comments This is brand new, but perhaps A Lady's Formula for Love? Female scientist working a clandestine mission for the Crown, threatened by shadowy forces. It is the first of a planned series called The Secret Scientists of London.

A Lady's Formula for Love (The Secret Scientists of London, #1) by Elizabeth Everett

TheBohemianBookworm, is this book series for teens or adults? Historical or contemporary mysteries?

Around what year did you first see these books?

Hannah Kelly (herfictionalfelicities) | 118 comments Hey everyone! Sorry It's been so long since I last checked in. It isn't any of the above titles unfortunately. :/ I saw the book I think in probably 2019 while browsing here on Goodreads. I think maybe the young lady/woman was interested in butterflies? I am honestly not sure. I am having trouble remembering much.

Hannah Kelly (herfictionalfelicities) | 118 comments I do remember that I think the cover was maroon or crimson colored.

Hannah Kelly (herfictionalfelicities) | 118 comments I know the first Veronica Speedwell book also has butterflies in it but I could have sworn this book was different and separate...

The Butterfly Conspiracy

The Butterfly Conspiracy A Merriweather and Royston Mystery by Vivian Conroy

"Perfect for fans of Deanna Raybourn’s Veronica Speedwell mysteries comes the enchanting series debut from Vivian Conroy, The Butterfly Conspiracy.

In late Victorian times, when new inventions cause both excitement and terror, a mysterious death at a zoological lecture brings together two unlikely allies in a quest through London's upper crust and underbelly to unravel the ingenious murder method and killer behind it.

Miss Merula Merriweather is not like other women her age: instead of hunting for a husband at balls and soirees she spends her time in a conservatory hatching exotic creatures. As the Royal Zoological Society won't accept a woman's accomplishments, she has her uncle Rupert take credit for her achievements. But at a zoological lecture, the guest of honor dies after contact with one of Merula's butterflies, and Merula's uncle is arrested for murder.

In an attempt to safeguard evidence to prove his innocence, Merula almost gets killed but for the timely interference of enigmatic Lord Raven Royston. Viewing natural history as a last resort to regain respectability lost by too many dubious business investments, Raven didn't expect his first lecture to take a murderous turn. Feeling partially responsible because he encouraged Merula to release the gigantic butterfly from the glass case in which it was kept, Raven suggests they solve the puzzle of Lady Sophia's sudden death together by looking closer at her relations with estranged friends, long suffering staff and the man groomed to be her heir, so close to her money and yet unable to touch any of it.

With the police looking for them, and every new discovery raising more questions than answers, especially about the murder method which left no traces of foul play on the body, Merula will have to risk her own life to get at the truth and save her uncle from the gallows in The Butterfly Conspiracy, Vivian Conroy’s enchanting series debut."

Natasha | 250 comments TheBohemianBookworm, have you also browsed other books in all the series mentioned above? Perhaps the particular books linked to are not the ones you saw, but it could have been another in the series.

message 23: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Kelly (herfictionalfelicities) | 118 comments Thank you all for the suggestions! The plot of The Butterfly Conspiracy sounds very similar to the Speedwell book that it reminded me of and the cover of the Felicity Carol book also is right! It's quite possible maybe I conflated the cover of one with the plot of another. I appreciate all the help.
