Yay I'm glad you're already checking it out Macey! Like I said, in my experience, you'll end up getting someone who might contact *you* and send you an invite for a job, and usually they'll end up giving you more of the same jobs to do! I would try to apply for the lower paying jobs too, since you'll get a lot more competition on big ones. And it'll help to build up your profile first. The site also lets you take some tests for proofreading, spelling, grammar, etc if you want. If you like the results you can add them to your profile page. They only take a few minutes each and displaying them makes you look good and helps show you're a good proofreader lol. There's a good variety of jobs on there so you shouldn't get bored with opportunities. :) Once I got one, I ended up getting several invites all at once. You'll get one, don't worry!

Now my book comment haha! Going to work on my non-spoilery review of The Crowns of Croswald now! I wanted to write it before I started book 2 so I wouldn't blend any of my feelings up, and keep the end of the first book fresh for my reaction. I wrote up most of what I want to say earlier, and I can't wait to finally finish it so I can just start book 2 already. 😂😂
I actually just completed a job interview for Upway to proofread a medical blog! I have to submit a resume though. And good luck on the review can’t wait to read it!
LOL HOLLY I HAVE NEVER WRITTEN SUCH A LONG REVIEW 😂😂😂😂 It's because I was writing down my thoughts earlier while working, and I always tend to overwrite. I was using a tiny notebook though so I didn't think it was as long as it was haha. I didn't want to give spoilers away so didn't, but I honestly loved the story and wanted to gush about the varied reasons why. I'm going to read through it again and edit it a bit to add gifs or something for readability lol
I spent way longer than I planned/expected on that review lol. But I'm looking forward to finally starting The Girl with the Whispering Shadow (#2) tomorrow. How's the Diviners? Another book about magic haha. 🤗
I hope you enjoy the book! And the diviner’s is definitely different from what I usually read it’s based on the 1900’s but I’m enjoying it!
Ooo I saw that it was historical, but didn't know which time period. It sounds like it's an interesting mix of historical and paranormal fantasy. Is the alternative history aspect just that there's magic or is there a lot of differences from our history?
The Diviner's. Apparently I'm in the mood for magic and a world that follows our history WITH magic sounds really fun 😂😅
Woo yay Macey!! That was fast, awesome! 😊 That's great, it'll be easier to get some more similar ones now and they might even give you more jobs later. I find a lot of clients like to refer back to people they've worked with before. 😊Happy Friday guys, hope they're going stress free
do you think it is appropriate for 12 year olds? i have been having a really hard time figuring out if this book is appropriate!
Congrats, Macey! I hope the job goes well for you! 😁 And I hope you have a stress free Friday as well, Taylor! Happy Friday!!!
They refused to pay me through Upwork or pay pal, and I don’t feel comfortable giving them my banking info so I had to let it go :(
Melody- I love A Court of Thorns and Roses, but are you looking for yourself or someone else? I don't really believe in censoring personally, it really depends on the maturity of the person, what they can handle and are already reading. But ACOTAR *does* have some explicit sex scenes, not as gratuitous as adult romance books lol, but when there are things happening they aren't hinted at, it's clearly stated what's going on. With specific words. So I feel like for most 12 year olds that yeah it's a bit too mature for them lol, but I wouldn't put it past a 14 year old. Some other great fantasy books I'd recommend are The Lunar Chronicles (actually this one would be greeeeat for a 12 year old), The Daughter of the Siren Queen, I second Shadow and Bone, and even Sarah J Mass' other series Throne of Glass which is much more young adult than A Court of Thorns and Roses. ACOTAR is much more romance driven so it gets more inappropriate than TOG which is heavier on plot. There's still moments in it too, but much less specific and often. The early books are petty tame and just things being hinted at.
And Macey- I'm so sorry that SUCKS. I've never had a problem, but also you completed that job really fast (which is usually awesome), but did they refuse to pay because they weren't happy with the job or something? Was there any reason or are they just ignoring you? I would make sure to rate them badly (it lets you rate your clients at the end of each job so other jobbers know), and mention how they refused to pay you. I've never had to do it, but that's why payment *through* Upwork is good because Upwork will have your back if you *aren't* paid. But like I messaged you, you can add your payment details in your account. Upwork is trustworthy. But if you aren't comfortable with that, you can add your PayPal info *within* your Upwork account. You don't have to give that to the client. Like they still pay you through Upwork meaning the balance just goes on your profile account. But then when you choose to cash out your balance on Upwork you can send it from Upwork to your PayPal yourself. You don't have to ever tell the client any of your info no matter how you set it up.I had to double check, but try to make sure "milestones" are funded on fixed price (not hourly) projects. Because if they've added "milestones" (even if it's just one) to a job, and you've done it, then they *have* to pay you. I think if they don't add milestones and then refuse to pay, then they aren't decent people and probably weren't going to. Feels like they planned not to pay. You can always ask before you start a project if they could please set a milestone. I've never had a problem like that before though so I think you just got unlucky. :( Before you choose a job, you can also see on that person's profile how many jobs they've put up on Upwork before, how much money that has been confirmed paid for those jobs, and their rating. I would try to avoid people who've never put a job up before, etc. So you feel more reassured. I'm so sorry though, like what a sucky way to start it off. :( You'll probably get invites though without having to go and apply to a million things though, so just relax and wait for them to come to you. Hopefully you don't have to ever have an experience like that again.
lol that was a lot so I'm just gonna leave a short book comment!Anyone else interested in Midnight Sun?? I'm hearing reeeeeally good things about it and need to get it soon haha
No I didn’t even do the job they were trying to get my bank acc info before I started and I asked to receive payment another way
Oh wth. That's not normal. If they asked just for your PayPal email so they could send you the funds to test one of their products, for ex, that would make sense. But you were just doing an editing job too. And there's no reason they wouldnt be able to do paypal. So that's weird then, that's good you were like uhhh no, so I wouldnt dwell on it.
Yikes! I'm sorry Macey, hopefully someone else comes along and is actually willing to do payment properly!I still haven't gotten around to reading Twilight (I know, I know, I really do mean to at some point 😂) but I've also heard people liked it! Are you guys going to be reading it?
I’m on page 191 of The Diviner’s, which I really like so far but I hate that I’m being slow about reading it. I hope more jobs become available we shall see lol. And I’m not reading twilight. I tried the first book and hated it 🤷♀️.
Lol I can get that with the first book, but honestly the books got a *lot* better and much better than the movies. I tore through them when I was like 14 haha, I couldn't stop I loved them. But every book isn't for everyone. Every author's voice and writing style rubs us differently. It's instinctual whether we like stuff, that's why there's so many great books out there for all of us. And Midnight Sun sold out SO fast though. Which love because it shows all the Twilight love is really still there, and bringing back these nostalgic 2008 feels ahaha. But yeah it's out of stock at like all the stores!??! So I have to wait actually lol I was shocked. But I'm still in the middle of The Crowns of Croswald series anyways though, 2 more to go, and then the last early 2020
IT WASNT THAT LONG. 😂😂 To be fair, if you're on the app it condenses it all into a narrower column and makes it look 2x longer. But on the computer this morning it was short 😩 Plus half was for Holly 😅😂😂Good morning? ❤
Yayy end of a long day but finally home and in pajamas :) I probably won't start my next book until tomorrow, but I can't wait!
Did Midnight Sun really sell out that fast?! Lol oh my goodness, I had no idea! I know our library has it, but they haven't put it out yet. What do you think of the cover? It gives my friend the creeps, lol! I don't mind it so much, but I also don't mind things that look unsettling usually 😂Wait, is the Crowns of Croswald an ongoing series? Our library doesn't have it so it's on the list of books to buy next time I forget I don't have space for more books.
Thankfully I haven't had to leave the house today, and I have NO intention of doing so lol! I...never got dressed today...I should really change and get laundry started...... 😅😂
It hurt ngl 😂 but yea it went well theres 9 of us so it took a minute and the midnight sun cover does look... cringe 😬
Covid testing? Doing the throat swabs just at normal doctor checkups has always made me gag so much, so I imagine the covid ones really sucking since it's nose too lol. Strange feelings. Glad it was quick and went well! Lol and a lot of people were under impressed with the Midnight Sun cover, but I've adjusted to it and don't mind too much.
And yeah Holly! The Crowns of Croswald is a 4 book series, and the last one is set to come out next year. I always forgot I'm short on space too. 😂😂 And pajama days are the best days. 🤗
