I got to hear Joe Hill do a reading of "Horns" in Toronto.

I've added that to my list!
And you are lucky to get to hear Joe Hill. He is an awesome man.

Did not catch me the same way that the Shining did. King captured the struggles of abuse very well once again, as well as the importance of support from friends and loved ones. That was, in my opinion, the best part. With how overpowered our main characters are, I never got a proper sense of urgency. The villains had more at risk than them.

My first finished reading of 2021 was the short story, Pop-art by Joe Hill. I am not sure if this counts as a read, but I highly recommend it. It's a sweet story about childhood, life and friendships.
I just finished The Other Side of the Sky, which is a very sweet and exciting fantasy about two people from different worlds meeting with their own struggles and how they go about it. There is a nice mix of magic and technology. It's the first book of a series and I am looking forward to October where I can hopefully pick up the second book.
The next book that I also finished was Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron . It was a fun read, and if you like fantasy, sticking it to the patriarchy and women loving women, then I highly recommend it.
I read The Shining by Stephen King. If you know horror, you've probably heard of the movie and the story. It was a bit triggering for me, due to the alcohol abuse and domestic violence. It was done quite well though. My faves were definitely Danny and Dick.
After The Shining, and the wonderful triggering, I needed something sweet and LGBTQ+. This is where You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson. Very sweet, and just what I needed.
Depending on how I am doing this year, I might go over 15 books.
