Fantasy. Character slowly turns into a dragon. Read around 1980s.

Hi! This is one of those, "I don't remember the book or the author, but it was red" kind of questions....

I have read a LOT of fantasy in my 49+ years and I have the tiniest tickling in the back of my brain about a book I read a long time ago (probably in the '80s).

The main character (I can't remember if they were male or female but I THINK it was a female) was in some way, slowly and maybe somewhat against their will, turning into a dragon? Does this ring a bell to anyone else?

The Prophet of Lamath? Can't remember if it's this book or a later one in the series where Bronwynn discovers her altershape is a dragon.

The Door Into Shadow? Segnbora sort of merges with a dragon, though it only shows as her shadow.

Maybe The Obsidian trilogy by Lawrence Watt Evans? (sorry, using the phone app, so can't provide links)

Could it be The Voyage of the Dawn Treader? Boy Eustace is separated from his companions, falls asleep on a dragon's hoard thinking greedy thoughts, wakes up transformed into a dragon. He's wearing a bracelet when he falls asleep; when he wakes up it's painfully tight on his arm (because, y'know, he's now a dragon).
