Kiara Welch | 5 comments Part of a book series. I think there are about 5 or 6 book in the series all following the same main character. Similar to Narnia in the sense that there is a religious aspect. The main character, a boy, has to fight off people sent by the evil character, but those people don't always appear evil till later. The seer helps the boy get through challenges but isn't always there when the boy wants him around

Main scene I remember is the boy is on an island trying to fight off creatures sent by the evil guy and the boy builds a bunch of bonfires because the creatures don't like the light or flame or something.

Read sometime around 2013-2015

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Anything about the cover?
Time period story takes place?
What other fantasy elements were there? Witches, dragons, vampires, etc?

Kiara Welch | 5 comments I'm sorry but I don't remember what the cover looks like at all but I'd like to think that if I saw it, I would recognize it.

Each book takes place over a short time period (a week or so, maybe a month?) but the whole series takes place over a couple years??

No vampires for sure. I don't think there were witches but there may have been dragons. I think there were also maybe some goblins? I can't remember any other fantasy elements tho I'm sure there are some

There's some bright white room with a staircase?

Michele | 2488 comments Do you remember if the books were short, medium, long, doorstop? Do you recall how he fights off the bad guys -- swords, guns, martial arts, magic? Does the boy have any other goal, or quest, or purpose other than fighting the bad guys?

You mentioned a religious aspect; can you elaborate on that?

Kiara Welch | 5 comments I read them in like grade 7 so they seemed long then but I don't think they were super long books. Maybe 350 pgs?

I think he fought the bad guys off with a sword that glowed with blue light when evil creatures were around. Definitely not a gun. The book is set in a more primate setting. He had other goals/ a quest but I don't remember what it was and it changed slightly every book, I think

The boy was the fulfillment of a prophecy like Jesus is the fulfillment of the prophecy to save the whole but the boy wasn't perfect like Jesus was. The seer was a prophet sent by God to help the boy through his challenges and I believe there's a scene where the boy finds a room that bright white with a large ascending staircase similar to Jacobs ladder in the Bible. The main bad guy represents Satan who sends his followers or evil creatures after the boy to make it harder for him to finish his mission. I believe many of the challenges he goes through represent real life challenges that we go through. I hope that makes sense. The religious aspect isn't always spelled out but more implied and represented by other things

Abigail (handmaiden) | 391 comments The Dark Is Rising series, by Susan Cooper? The first book is Over Sea, Under Stone. Modern setting, but with quite a bit of Celtic pre-Christian symbolism and mythological elements, as well as some Arthurian legend. Five books in total. There is a boy who is a main or key character in most of the books, but also a set of three siblings who are main or featured characters in some of the books.

STU | 63 comments Sounds a bit like David Eddings Belgariad or Mallorean series.
Involves a prophecy involving a boy, 5 books in each series.

Probably not though.

Abigail (handmaiden) | 391 comments Kiara,

I was composing my previous comment at the time you posted the one above it (message 5) and I didn't see it until after I posted mine. So, my suggestion of The Dark Is Rising was in response to your earlier posts. But with your further clarifying comment, another possibility that comes to mind is The Archives of Anthropos series, by John White. What you are describing sounds somewhat like The Sword Bearer. The boy who is the main character is the fulfillment of a prophecy, there is a sword that glows blue, and there is a seer. The series is not an exact match, though. For instance, the boy who is the main character of The Sword Bearer is not the main character of all of the other books.

Kiara Welch | 5 comments I'm 99.99% sure that you got it!! I just looked at the cover and it looks really familiar. I'm going to order them right now from the library. Thank you so much!! I have been trying to figure this out for probably like a year! You just made my entire month!

Kiara, just to confirm, are you saying The Sword Bearer by John White (Abigail's suggestion) is your book?

Quote from Google Books preview:

"Soon they had built four huge piles all ready to light. Round each bonfire twenty or so Matmon would station themselves. Sunset found them on the parapets staring at the water. A full moon had risen in the late afternoon. No one knew when to..."
