Melindam | 4427 comments Thanks Heather for being an awesome Co-Captain! ♡ :)

message 453: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments Will check what colour cards I will be able to cover on my end.

message 454: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments You're welcome!!

I'm checking with the other captains to see if one of the books I read earlier in the month can count for green. Fingers crossed!

message 455: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments I can cover a 3 Yellow or the corresponding WD4 for sure.

message 456: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments Greens/blues will not be be a problem either and will search for some more yellows

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments OK, Green 5 is covered!

So we need:
Blue 5
Green 7 -- Alma
Yellow 1
Yellow 3 -- Melinda

message 458: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments I also have a Yellow 3 that I can put on my list for this month to cover a WD4.

message 459: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments OK, my Yellow 3 also works for 1, so we can use it for that as well. :)

message 460: by Alma (new)

Alma (almamm) | 173 comments I can do green 7 since I'm not reading one of my other chosen books.

message 461: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments @Lorna, it's the same document, just the March worksheet. Here's the link...
team spreadsheet

I put in the last book you noted you completed, so you don't need to add that one (your yellow cover).

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments Alma wrote: "I can do green 7 since I'm not reading one of my other chosen books."

Thanks Alma! I'm putting you down for Green 7!

Laura..devouring books like crumpets (lauzacookie) | 640 comments I can read a yellow 5? Do we need it?

message 464: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments Yes, for a WD4, Laura

message 465: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments I also have a Blue 5 I can read. I'll do that one next, and then my Yellow after. Mel, since yours can work for Yellow too, mine can always be a WD4 instead.

message 466: by Alma (new)

Alma (almamm) | 173 comments The Thursday murder club finished. 5* it is hilarious but without meaning to. Every character is priceless. I highly recommend it.
I have put it on my UNO shelve

Please bear with me for still being slow and occasionally absent in the coming days.

Will try to get back to the groove asap.

message 474: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments Just to throw it out there...we have 6 Reverses that aren't covered as well. So keep an eye out for whatever you might have that can cover one of those too.

message 475: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments Thanks Heather! Now that I will have laptop access, I will check for reverses as well.

Thanks for all your kind words. It feels almost weird to be back home after the shaky experience of the last 10 days, as I am still far from fully recovered, but hope it will help eventually to find some old/new kind of "normal".

UNO also helped to tether me to some kind of reality, so I am more than thankful to be part of it.

My head/eyes are acting a bit weird, so there's still not much I can do for sheet arrangements, but I am going on steadily with my audiobooks mostly, which I am appreciating even more than before. :)

Melindam | 4427 comments description

MINI CHALLENGE TIME IS HERE!

March Mini Challenge

March Mini COUNTDOWN

The tasks come in threes and each task-trio also provides clues to a famous musician/band & 1 of their songs (and in some cases the official videoclips).
Complete the tasks and try to guess the name of the musician/band + song for extra points.

◈ Every book read, i.e. every task completed, is worth 10 points.
◈ If you complete all tasks, your team will receive 30 bonus points.
◈ You get 3 bonus points/musician-band, if your guess is correct. (max 45 points)
◈ You get 2 bonus points/song if your guess is correct. (max 30 points)

In case you are not certain about your guesses, you have 1 chance to correct them. Just message UNO Pixie with your band/song list and we'll let you know which of your guesses are incorrect.
If you want to use this option, please send your 1st guess-list 4 days before the challenge ends at the latest (27 March). Once you have the reply, you need to adjust your list by the end of the challenge.

For the books, the usual UNO rules applies.

◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the UNO challenge (Feb 1)
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on March 14, 9am UTC and before April 1 at 9am UTC (when the April UNO month begins).
◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ The usual book length rules apply

Melindam | 4427 comments Teamies!

Read the March Mini info please, and give us a shout for anything that may be unclear!

message 488: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments Hooray! Just make sure you finish after the countdown is over. :)

I think, the practical thing would be once again to list the mini options for our books in 1 column and then Heather and I can move them around if necessary.

I will be finishing a book with MPG Christian/Religion, so that's another one being taken care of for sure. :)

message 489: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments Actually, you can "thank" me for this mini challenge... or just curse me for it ... :)

I came up with the idea, meaning that I can read all the books for all necessary tasks (and I will!), but I cannot participate in the music guessing game part, as obviously I know the solutions.

Heather will coordinate that part for sure (just like everything else for the time being).

I hope it'll provide some extra fun and won't prove a menace for you all. ♡

message 490: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Pereira (babitix) | 285 comments I was planning to finish 2 books by Saturday, but I think I hold them for the Mini Challenge.

Good news, I got my second Pfizer jab yesterday. I had some reactions buy knowing that I'll be immune makes me relax with this whole situation. How's the vaccination on your countries?

Mel, you are back!
Lorna, how are you feeling?

In two days I read half of The Color Purple. Big Sister, Little Sister and Red Sister bored me a little, I think it was too much for me, although the book is rich in information. I will try to put Purple apart just to give the Red one a try again :P

message 491: by Melindam (last edited Mar 11, 2021 09:32AM) (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments Good news on the vaccine, Barbara.

Unfortunately in Hungary they are making an awful mess of it. :(

It's my parents I am worried about mostly, now I had 1st hand experience what havoc this virus can cause. :( I would feel so much better if they could get the first jab at least.

Laura..devouring books like crumpets (lauzacookie) | 640 comments Alot of the books have inner workings (lol) wont know untill we finish them so if any of my books fit mini tasks i will add what they fit in side bar (sorry if things are allready claimed) but like Mel said her and Heather can move things about if needed.... im currently playing a handful of games in other groups, Alot of my Team mates actually recommended uno to me (so glad they did) But due to this i tend to pick my books as needed and try to fit them in as many challenges as poss

Laura..devouring books like crumpets (lauzacookie) | 640 comments Ones i know for sure i wont be doing

6. Read a book with a white suit or white hat on the cover
i have no book with this description

14. Read a book set in Scandinavia i have no books in Scandinavia

message 495: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments For task 6 - a man wearing a white shirt/coat will also be accepted. But it's good to know what are those books you cannot cover for sure. Will figure it out among us until end of March. :)

message 496: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments So excited for the March Mini!

I added a sheet to our tracking spreadsheet that has a list of the tasks, as well as a place for us to start putting our guesses for the Song and Band. As Mel said, I think the best option for tracking the tasks and your books is to put the numbers of the tasks that your book can satisfy and then we'll figure it out from there.

For the Songs and Bands, a hint was given in the captain's group that if you look at a list of popular songs from the 80s we should be able to figure it out. Take a look, and feel free to put guesses in the March Mini sheet.

message 497: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments And on the vaccines...I can't wait to get mine. In California we are still in the early phases of distribution, so elderly, healthcare workers, and now teachers and a couple of other occupations qualify. They say they will open to the next age group and people with underlying conditions soon.

message 498: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments Thank you, again, Heather for managing it all for us. :)

message 499: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments I will be checking my books for the mini and also try to find some reserves while I am about it.

I can totally cover the 500+ book, btw, as well as the MPG Religion/Christian and even the permed hair task is no problem. (though I don't have a Meg Ryan reference :)

The Scandinavian (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Faroe Islands, Greenland are all accepted) setting will be problematic for me, though.

message 500: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments I can also cover the "literary character ends up in real life or vice versa" task.
