I'm trying to remember the name of a teen book I read in the 90s...

It's about teens being taken over by an entity feeding on their imaginations and convincing them they're dreaming when they're awake. It has a girl as the main character. One of the students thinks he was abducted by aliens. She thinks she's been invited into the world of the fae folk.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Are the main characters friends who go to the same school - or teens from different locations?

You don't actually learn what they are until the end. Some kind of parasite. The alien abduction is just a dream they are creating.

All the kids go to the same school.
