Jacob J | 10 comments 1st book I ever read. It went something like, "I see a monkey. I see a tree. Do you see the bee? Uh-oh."

Jacob, can you describe the illustrations - e.g., simple or detailed, realistic or cartoon-like, painted watercolors or bold graphics? Do they remind you of a similar illustrator or picture book author?

Jacob J | 10 comments Simple cartoon picture book. Illustrations maybe similar style to "Curious George?"

Jacob J | 10 comments I think I remember roughly 4 lines per page?

Jacob J | 10 comments Might have been a big, hard cover book with paper pages... The monkey and be got into a quarrel. I think the bee ended up stinging the monkey.

Jacob J | 10 comments Just thought of this. It's possible that it was a book with multiple short stories.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5559 comments I'm pretty sure the story is The Monkey And The Bee by Leland B. Jacobs, and it appears in the The Read-It-Yourself Storybook - not sure if it's in other collections too.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5559 comments Are you sure? You can 'borrow' a digital copy of The Read-It Yourself Storybook from archive.org (https://archive.org/details/readityou...) to read the story, but I've transcribed part of it here:

See! See! What do I see?
I see a tree. Yes, I see a tree.
See! See! What do I see?
I see a bee. Yes, I see a bee.
See! See! What do you see?
I see a monkey. I see a tree.
Do you see a bee? Oh! Oh!
