Karen (karinlib) | 586 comments I will start with the easy level. I want to go into depth in a country/language, rather than reading multiple languages. Last year I focused on Indonesia, this year I want to focus on Russia. The plan is to read 5 - 10 books on Russia.

I have to read at least one history, one classic, and one book that everyone in a country would have read. I have many books in my mind. It will really depend on when I become bored.

Languages:
1. Russian
2. Danish
3. Norwegian
4. Spanish
5. German
6. Japanese
7. Dutch
8. Georgian
9. Gikuyu
10. Italian
11. Korean
12. Albanian
13. Norwegian

I like your angle on this challenge, Karen. There are so many great books for Russia!

Karen (karinlib) | 586 comments Adding to message 2 (Russian) A Hero of Our Time by Mikhail Lermontov

Pushkin and Lermontov are considered the best and second best poets respectively in Russia, and they both wrote in the early nineteenth century. Ironically, they both died young in duels.

This is one of the books offered free by Amazon for World Book Day.

I loved it. I find myself thinking about and rereading a number of times. It's a children's picture book.
