2021 Introduction
I am a returning (though sporadically participating) member. Just moved to Oregon, USA, and as I have no TV service for a while I am hoping January will be a banner reading month! My beat is mostly Georgian England, which is the period I’m writing about, but I like histfic set in the USA as well (especially before it was a nation) and often read books set in other places and times.
Hi, I'm new to goodreads, I have a library diploma and live in Australia. I prefer books set between the 1920s to the end of the 1960s but I do read a variety of books. I'm looking forward to reading your recommendations and making new friends. Cheers. Donna.

2021 Reset!! I'm a 30 year employee of my local public library, where I currently facilitate a Historical Fiction Book Club and serve on our Mock Printz committee. I also previously facilitated a Mystery Book Club. All three are my favorite genres (perfect trifecta - a YA Historical Mystery :), but I'm interested in all types of books.
Joined Goodreads in 2009 & have been a member of this group for about 7 years. Historical fiction & historical mysteries are my favorites. Love all the great recommendations I've discovered here on Goodreads!
I signed up for Goodreads 4 years ago, but last year was the first year I actually used it, and I really love it! Historical fiction has always been a favorite genre for me, so this group is one of the highlights of my Goodreads life. :-) I'm looking forward to the group reads we will do this year!

Hi, I'm Jessica and have been a GoodReads members for some time but last year was my first time jumping into a group like ours. I love historical fiction and other genres. I'm an accountant so Mid-January to Mid-April I don't get to read as much as I like but I try to make up for it the rest of the year.
Hi, everyone! I’m new here, a poet and a lifelong lover of historical fiction. Although I’ve been a Goodreads member for years, I just found this group a couple of weeks ago. It’s a pleasure to be with others of my kind.Last year’s reading began for me with The Virtues of War: A Novel of Alexander the Great by Steven Pressfield, then leapt forward to the Viking conquest of England with the first two of Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Tales, The Last Kingdom and The Pale Horseman.
Currently, I’m happily nestled in England’s 12th century war of succession with The Pillars of the Earth and three mysteries from the Brother Cadfael series. I’d very much like to linger in that period for a while, if there are other good titles. Suggestions, anyone?

Hi I am new to this group but not new to Goodreads. I actually just became an avid reader. I used to hate reading with a passion, but in my midlife years, I am discovering I love reading more than watching TV. I am from Portland, Oregon. I am originally from Arcadia, CA. I love watching historical fiction on TV so hoping to replace that with some good books.
I've been a lurker in this group for a while, but one of my goals for this year is to participate! I love historical fiction, but I tend to read about the same eras/themes, so I'm looking forward to broadening my historical fiction horizons. I'm a writer who lives in the suburbs of Boston.

I have just joined this group although I have been on goodreads for many years. Historical fiction is my first love although I read a lot of everything. I am currently reading The Viennese Candidate as my favourite book of last year, The Cursed Sister, was by the same author.
I have put on hold The Mirror and the Light by Hillary Mantel. I am enjoying it but I am finding her unique style of writing difficult. I don't know why as I didn't have too much trouble with the first two books.
I must be getting old!

I am a lover of Historical Fiction. It began with Shogun back in 1976. I felt like I learned so much about Japan and to some extant Europe. I went and researched William Adams(1564-1620), the English Pilot who is the real life man portrayed as John Blackthorne. I love Historical Fiction that is true. I appreciate authors like Steve Berry who tell us what is true in what he writes and what is not. I read eclectically. I read often about India. I am always open to recommendations oof books on India. I will warn you I have read most of what is out there, but would love to meet fellow lovers of books on India. I look forward to learning in this group.

Debora, have you read this group’s rules regarding author promotion?
I am an eclectic reader and enjoy books across a range of genres, but Historical Fiction is one of my favorites. I would be interested to hear of books group members have read more than one time. Doing so, or hoping to do so is one of my critia for 5-star reviews. Feel free to contact me by message with books that have enchanted you or even changed you life.
The only historical fiction I can think of that I have read more than once (and it's as much fantasy as histfic) is The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart. When I was a lot younger I probably read some of Mary Renault’s Greek fiction more than once. And I love rereading Georgette Heyer novels, which are mostly historical romance. As a kid I loved books like Johnny Tremain and The Witch of Blackbird Pond.Not usually viewed as historical fiction but I love books by nineteenth-century British and American authors that are set in a time anterior to their own eras—from Sir Walter Scott’s and Robert Louis Stevenson’s novels to Middlemarch and Wives and Daughters.
If you don’t think historical fiction has to be about famous (or even real-life) people, try The Final Solution and Gentlemen of the Road by Michael Chabon. Both short novels are set in the past (WWII and the Middle Ages, respectively) and are exquisitely written.
Hello, I'm an off and on member of Goodreads. I am an artist and novelist of literary historical drama; although my reading habits are diverse. I read a lot of non-fiction for research but my preferred genre is 18th and 19th Century literature, predominantly British.Some of my favourite novels in the historical fiction genre are 'Half of a Yellow Sun' by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, 'The Sympathizer' by Viet Thanh Nguyen, 'The Name of the Rose' by Umberto Eco and 'Measuring the World' by Daniel Kehlmann.
I've also really enjoyed Philippa Gregory's works.

Welcome Maria! Good to see you here. Umberto Eco is a classic I still need to read. My preferred genre is historical Fiction , 18, 19 century, and my debut novel Standing Tall fits right there (19 century, turning to 20). All the best, and good readings ahead!
