Every Heart a Doorway
(slight theme there...)
My Brilliant Friend
32 Yolks: From My Mother's Table to Working the Line
Snowblind
Well, the audible flash sale today hooked me! I got Food: A Love Story
The Age of Witches
Nelson Mandela's Favorite African Folktales
Grimm Tales for Young and Old
A Brief History of Misogyny: The World's Oldest Prejudice
Carter & Lovecraft
Strange the Dreamer
Margo I think you get more out of some audio books then I get out of paper books. I admire your ability to listen. I need to learn that. I so often hear but dont listen
I was like that with audiobooks several years ago, Renee. I always said I didn't like them. Then, I tried again as a distraction while driving home from work and something just changed. I slowly grew to love them and listen quite often now.
Kristie wrote: "Part 2 - Muse of Nightmares is in the sale today."Ooo! I'm going to head over there now!
Ok, from the audible sale day 2 I got Muse of Nightmares
Zombie Spaceship Wasteland
How We Learn: The Surprising Truth About When, Where, and Why It Happens and
Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower
Renee wrote: "Margo I think you get more out of some audio books then I get out of paper books. I admire your ability to listen. I need to learn that. I so often hear but dont listen"Renee, you're right, listening to audiobooks was a learned skill for me. Many years ago I had a stroke and woke up from it dyslexic. My OT at the time suggested audiobooks as a way to improve my concentration and as a replacement for physical books. It took a long time to get used but for many years I've been hooked! I think a good narrator can enhance a story but, on the other hand, a poor reading can ruin it.
I have $3.00 left on my coupon and so far the sale items and the daily deal haven't appealed to me. I have till the 31st to use it, and the sale is over in two more days, so hopefully something will come up.Speaking of the daily deals, today's is Hannah's War. I debated getting it but opted to wait a few more days for something else. My dad and brother were here visiting a couple of weeks ago and I mentioned a WWII book I was reading. My brother said, "Women read WWII books??" I frowned and replied, "Of course they do!" I still think of that comment with annoyance. He still knows how to push my buttons.
Brothers are very good at that.I just purchased Louise Penny’s newest Inspector Gamache book, The Madness of Crowds. I also bought Soulbound from a BookBub special. I am starting to explore the Fantasy genre a bit more.

I got two ebook deals recently:
Miss Benson's Beetle
The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop
I saw Miss Benson's Beetle as an ebook deal, Peggy, but I waited too long and missed it. My library has a physical copy, so I guess it's all for the best. It looks really interesting. The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop looks good too.
I just used the last of my Audible coupon. I have been pecking away at it slowly with daily deals and a whispersync deal, now a sale book. Using my coupon I got:Well-Behaved Indian Women (today's sale)
The Lost Children
A Deadly Influence (whispersync)
The Light Through the Leaves
The Venice Sketchbook
Not bad...5 free books using my $20 coupon, leaving me with a $0.16 balance.
Peggy wrote: "I would be annoyed too! Was he really surprised or was he out to get you worked up?"I don't know if he was serious or not. I decided to let it roll off my back rather than get into a disagreement. I should have replied, "Yes, and we read westerns too." LOL! He's given me two books as gifts - A Discovery Of Strangers and Interpreter of Maladies. Neither are typical chick lit, so maybe he was just joking.
Nothing in today's sale inspired me to spend my $3.00 coupon. Tomorrow is the last day of the sale and the 31st is the last day of my coupon. Eeep!
I got these from the sale last night and this morningAsleep: The Forgotten Epidemic that Remains One of Medicine's Greatest Mysteries
Mortality
Second Nature: A Gardener's Education
Super Freakonomics
Monkey King: Journey to the West
Post Corona: From Crisis to Opportunity
The Price of Inequality: How Today's Divided Society Endangers Our Future
Mythology
The Runes of the Earth
and I spent a credit on Babylon's Ashes because that is the next book in the series I am reading
Last sale, next to last day of my coupon and I got The Scribe. It was a couple dollars more than my coupon, but $2.00 is a cheap audiobook.
This audible sale week ended up being expensive for me! But I am pleased :) this is what I bought from the final day of the saleThe Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge
Tough Shit: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good
Writing My Wrongs
Ball Lightning
Ha! I've been wanting to buy Piranesi for a while, because I need it for the year long challenge and also I really do want to read it. But, instead of just buying it when I thought of it, this time I decided to wait until I really needed it. You know, just in case it pops up as an ebook deal in between. And it did! Picked it up today for only 1.99!
Can't count the times it was the other way around (seeing it as a deal only after I've bought it but not yet read it), so yay!

Me too! I wish it would happen more. Or perhaps I should just be quicker in reading the books I buy, and I would never have the problem of having paid too much for them.
Here are my book buys for this week. Chirp had some good books this week and a couple from audible and kindle tooConversations with Friends
Life on Earth

I used my Audible $5.00 coupon on the sale today and got The Unleashing. I also used 2 credits and got:
Empire of the Vampire
Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other
After spending 2 weeks waiting on Stranded to transfer to my library. I bought Orbs, Stranded, Redemption, Exodus from kindle. Then I picked up Mr Loverman from google because I have found that Margo has good taste and it was on sale.
I am saving my audible credits this month for Sandman Vol 2 and Under the Whispering Door but there were a BUNCH of books I wanted for the latest sale! I had to go through my list and weed out ones that my library had or ones that I maybe didn't need to own at this moment so I could keep it under $50. This sale really had me. Damn them with their constant sales! It's like Bath & Body Works - they do the same thing to me. I ended up withBird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life I am collecting Anne Lamott because she was one of my best friend's favorites (the one who died in Jan)
As Long as Grass Grows: The Indigenous Fight for Environmental Justice, from Colonization to Standing Rock
A Black Women's History of the United States
Hyperion
Dreamer's Pool
Borne (because the last vandermeer book I got was actually #2 of this series so I needed #1 - they better be good! lol)
An African American and Latinx History of the United States
Life in the Garden
The Last Sun
I bought the second and third book in His Dark Materials after finishing The Golden Compass. I can use The Subtle Knife on another museum task, if I bump off the library book I have slotted there. I might find a task for The Amber Spyglass. ;o)
That's a great series series Cherie. I can't wait for the tv show of the third series to be released.
I got Audible's daily deal today. It's A Wonderful Midlife Crisis should be a light fluffy read good for topplers or when I need something brainless.
It arrived!! My beautiful preorder of God: An Anatomy is stunning. And sounds fascinating. It arrived and we have been plunged into 5 days of severe thunderstorms. Coincidence? I think not...

Ooooh - It sounds interesting, and the cover looks great. I'll bet the picture here doesn't do it justice.
I caved and got today's daily deal: Orlando People. It's a 7 hour audiobook and sounds like it might be great for a toppler.
Janice wrote: "Ooooh - It sounds interesting, and the cover looks great. I'll bet the picture here doesn't do it justice."It's very gold on ink blue.
I think I need to leave this one for when I'm not thinking about challenges so I can absorb it properly
Janice wrote: "I caved and got today's daily deal: Orlando People. It's a 7 hour audiobook and sounds like it might be great for a toppler."That does sound like a perfect toppler read! Good timing :)

Force of Nature I have been enjoying her lately
Seven Days in June
Ithaca: A Novel of Homer's Odyssey
The Secret Lives of Bats: My Adventures with the World's Most Misunderstood Mammals - I teach about bats in my kindergarten in October so I thought this book would give me some more cool bat facts to have rolling around in my brain!

Oh Gods, I need that book! Thank you for bringing it to attention Rus ;-)
No worries! I'm looking forward to it. Here's a video of the author on Aussie TV a few years ago. I find her very insightful, considered, intelligent but ultimately respectful. If you believe, go for it, but she's looking at the historical record and discusses that. They are different things.

I went around to the little library today and got:The Mercies
The Kalahari Typing School for Men
Gilead
