Sandy | 11 comments Just checking to see if this is correct: I read both copies of this book, one was the young readers edition and one was the adult version. They have different ISBN numbers but when you type in the book title and/or the ISBN number you end up on the same book site. I find this strange. Perhaps it is just me but I think they should have different book sites since they are different versions of the book with different ISBN numbers for different users. Could someone check into this for me? I don't think a young reader will look at the adult site and want to read it and vice versa. The book is called Irena's Children by Mary Cronk Farrell

Thanks,

Scott | 9385 comments What is it that makes it a young readers' edition?

Sandy | 11 comments The books are about the Holocaust so I would assume that the adult version would have more detail and therefore be geared more towards adults while the young reader's edition wouldn't have as many details and the print is larger.

The adult version:
Paperback : 352 pages
ISBN-10 : 1476778515
ISBN-13 : 978-1476778518

The young readers edition:
Paperback : 288 pages
ISBN-10 : 1481449923
ISBN-13 : 978-1481449922
Reading age : 10 years and up
Lexile measure : 1000L
Grade level : 5 - 6

Sandy | 11 comments I looked this up and she said that she adapted her adult book so it wouldn't be overwhelming to teens and tweens. She was overwhelmed with the cruelty and horrors of what Irene's witnessed and it was difficult to write the story knowing that this might be the first book some children might read about the Holocaust.

Arenda | 26447 comments Some Young Readers Editions already had the adapter as primary author (and a note that the adaptation should not be combined with the original book), but were nonetheless combined with the original book.

I've moved the adapter to the primary author position where needed and separated all Young Reader Editions from the original editions (at least I hope I've got them all).

message 7: by Elizabeth S (new) - added it

Elizabeth S (esorenson) | 5 comments I have a similar issue with Hidden Figures and Hidden Figures. My teen just got a copy of the young readers' edition and I was surprised to find it combined with the original version and without the subtitle of "Young Readers' Edition." I went to change these things and found a librarian note saying:

This is an adaptation, and should not be combined with the primary work. Discussion here.
"Young Readers' Edition" should not be added to the title field per this policy.

Obviously, someone still incorrectly combined the young readers' edition with the original. Is there a way to fix this?

Also, I believe that "Young Readers' Edition" should be added to the title, but this librarian says not to per a linked policy. But when I read the policy, it seems to say that I am right. Am I mis-reading things?

I am a librarian, but not experienced. If a more experienced librarian can help with these issues, I appreciate it.

In future, please start new threads, rather than posting in an existing thread linked to another book.

Please see https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I will clean them up again.
I would have, but they are not actually combined. If you have more concerns about these works, please start a new thread to discuss them.
