Start with Beast in View, then backtrack. You'll want to after reading that one.

Dr. Siri #9, possible to read as a stand-alone but I recommend the series be read in order. A woman dies but then seemingly comes back to life. You think the answer is obvious but nothing happening here is obvious. Dr. Siri rides again--5 stars.

I enjoyed reading this very comprehensive biography of a much maligned President. I rate it 4.5 stars rounded up. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I've read the entire series. My favorite was The Torso, and quite honestly, I didn't feel like the rest of the series measured up to that one.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9973 comments Another Kind of Eden Another Kind of Eden by James Lee Burke by James Lee Burke

In 1962, Aaron Holland Broussard, a 26-year-old novelist looking for a story, is riding the rails out West and taking odd jobs. As usual in Burke's books, he runs into true evil.

Good story with Burke's standard touches 3.5 stars

Glad you mentioned this series Chris. The reviews are excellent. Not sure why I haven’t heard of this author before but I’m hunting down the first book this weekend.
Cheers

Peter Grant/Rivers of London #3, recommend the reader start with #1. The son of a U.S. Senator is found dead and Peter is assigned the case. Extremely enjoyable fantasy-mystery, maybe like an adult Harry Potter joins the cops. Also the most entertaining book about the history of London ever. Highly recommended, 5 stars.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

Will Parker is an almost billionaire tech company wiz who leaves Silicon Valley and his company behind (in capable hands of a trusted employee) to join the FBI and solves cases of missing....people and all things tech related.

Great new concept for a book that is not quite Police Procedural but a great read!

James Best (jamesbest) | 299 comments Now starting NOTHING MORE DANGEROUS by Allen Eskens, the sixth novel in his ongoing series featuring attorney Boady Sanden, reporter Joe Talbert, and homicide detective Max Rupert.

This one is a prequel of sorts giving the back story on Sanden when he was still living in Missouri during his awkward years as a teen. Pretty good so far.

Billy Boyle #4, OK to read as a stand-alone. In this one arms have been stolen from the Army in Ireland and Billy is sent to track them down and to prevent the Germans from partnering with the IRA. Good story, I liked it.

This series is set in a fictional West Texas small border desert town. Since there is only 1 murder and no grisly violence, I would class it as a cozy mystery.
