Finished Case Histories by Kate Atkinson.
Literary crime where the complete focus is on the characters and the mystery is an afterthought. Rating - 4/5

My Review

A very dark mystery. Here’s a link to my review:

Fethering Mysteries #5, OK to read as a stand-alone. Carole and Jude don't believe a death in Jude's friend's hotel is suicide. Cute low-key mystery series. 2 to 3 stars.

Scottish police detective Logan McRae investigates several serious crimes, and (as usual) gets in trouble for not following the rules.
Good book. 4 stars

Case Histories by Kate Atkinson - the first in the Jackson Brodie series
Rating: 4 stars

This is the 75th anniversary edition of The Snake Pit, originally published in 1946. The book is a semi-autobiographical novel based on the author's committal to New York's Rockland State Hospital in 1941.
Very good book. 4 stars

Little Caesar by W.R. Burnett

Decent, if not earth shattering. Here’s a link to my 3.5 star review:

In this sequel to Still Lives (which was a Reese Witherspoon book club choice), art gallery employee Maggie Richter goes undercover to help investigate the apparent suicide of a video artist graduate student.
Interesting peek into the Los Angeles art scene. 3.5 stars

I was disappointed with the 1st book, but it may have been the translation. I'm looking forward to trying this 2nd one

I really enjoyed her The Listening Walls and her Beyond This Point Are Monsters but her books written in the 50s to me are probably as good as they get. A couple of days ago I pulled her Vanish in an Instant off its shelf for night-time reading. It's been forever since I've read this one and have completely forgotten it.

Since I discovered Millar's books, she's become one of my favorite mystery writers. Such great characters and story-telling. Beast in View was a 5-star book for me. The Soft Talkers and Wall Of Eyes were as well but I've enjoyed so many of her stories.

I love her writing. I still have a few of hers to read.
