Literary crime where the complete focus is on the characters and the mystery is an afterthought. Rating - 4/5

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 440 comments Finished Look For Me, quite enjoyed it, and St Clare's Collection 1: Books 1-3 - I never really got into St Clare's as a child, and have to say, not as enjoyable as Mallory Towers. Then read Death du Jour which I wasn't looking forward to, as I didn't like the first due to the differences between the book and TV show, but managed to read the second as I pretended they weren't connected, so can read the others, but won't buy any more. Classics this month, I picked an Agatha Christie collection for my bathroom book, not realising it was nearly 1k pages!! Started Rebecca yesterday.

Fethering Mysteries #5, OK to read as a stand-alone. Carole and Jude don't believe a death in Jude's friend's hotel is suicide. Cute low-key mystery series. 2 to 3 stars.

message 1142: by Lance (new)

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) | 421 comments Weekend Warriors has a promising revenge-fantasy concept and the bones of what could've been a good story. Sadly, fatally-flawed writing meant I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I wanted to. There are only another thirty-odd installments in this series, so someone must be finding something s/he likes in it. Three stars for promise and one star for execution...not bad enough to want my own revenge for wasted time, but only just.

I really enjoyed her The Listening Walls and her Beyond This Point Are Monsters but her books written in the 50s to me are probably as good as they get. A couple of days ago I pulled her Vanish in an Instant off its shelf for night-time reading. It's been forever since I've read this one and have completely forgotten it.

Since I discovered Millar's books, she's become one of my favorite mystery writers. Such great characters and story-telling. Beast in View was a 5-star book for me. The Soft Talkers and Wall Of Eyes were as well but I've enjoyed so many of her stories.
